Best HDD Test?

I have a few HDDs laying around that I want to test out the durability of. What's a good piece of software to at least test them and make sure there aren't any errors or platter problems?

I have, of course, plugged them in to at least verify they power on and show up on my Windows PC. What more can I do to verify they are functional for resale?

Thanks! :D

I'm not sure about if it's the best or whatnot, but I use the SMART test for HD's 'mileage' along with chkdsk to check if there's a bad sector.

There is no test that will tell you how good the HD is.
If you run a HD torture test, that will only show a snapshot in time, with no real guarantee of future use.
If the SMART data shows everything is OK (use crystaldiskinfo (free)), then again, that is only a snapshot in time, it can't predict the future, unless it is showing bad blocks, or other errors. If that is the case, then toss the HD or sell it for parts.

I realize it's not going to show it's longevity, but that's what I'm looking for Elixer and Slpnshot. I'm looking to see if there are any errors on the disk itself. I know they can spin up fine, but of course, that doesn't tell me if there's a bad sector that might crash it eventually.

I'll try those out when I get home in a little bit here.
