Best HD provider right now?

Thoughts on the best HD provider right now? I've been using basic Comcast cable, but I'm jumping on the HDTV train soon w/ a new LCD.

Depending on where you are Comcast has a fair amount of hd channels (and as far as I know they use less compression then DirectTv). You should check with your comcast branch to see how many hd channels they offer and compare the lineup with dish and directv.

i had AT&T Uverse and the picture quality was gorgeous. so nice, in fact, that i was convinced *some non-HD channels were HD. most SD channels were beautiful. never understood the horror people got when they watched SD on their HDTV.... now i have comcast and that horror is realized. Comcast HD looks okay (7/10), but comcast SD looks worse than a poor antenna reception

interesting. Uverse by ATT = IPTV?

Directv will win hands down. 🙂

Not the case anymore since the new satellite launched. Picture quality is great. They been adding more channels every week for the last 4 weeks.

Nice chart here listen who has what for channels.

DirectTV is claiming 70 channels of HD on their tv ads and 100 by the end of the year. Haven't heard anything from cable or Dish.

If the compression is better than previously with DirecTV's new satellite, then they win, hands down. Apparently, the quality of their HD broadcasts have been sub-par compared to other providers up to this point. Now they have an unmatched lineup in numebr sof HD channels; I guess quality is the only thing to look into. One caveat: even though the channel might be HD, doesn't mean that their is a lot, if any, HD content broadcast on that channel....

I would still go with DirecTV though. They sound pretty commited, at least.

I currently have both Comcast and DTV in our Home Theater ( at least until I return my cable box)

DTV blows Comcast PQ out of the friggen water. Direct TV apparently doesn't need to use as much compression anymore since they switched to the new (Mp4?) hardware.

those of you with comcast hd, are you using the stb or cablecard? how's the quality?

STB ( Motorola DVR) and it looks like absolute shit. I can barely tell the difference between their HD and SD. I actually had a service call to evaluate it, it looks so bad in comparison I thought there had to be something wrong with the service. The Comcast rep confirmed that this was "normal" and there was nothing wrong with my lines/system.

SD DTV looks better than HD Comcast.

I have Insight, with the Motorola DVR and it looks nice...
Most Satellite companies have shitty blocking with their service.
AVS forum has a nice thread with screenshots of the different services.

please provide link.

also, anyone with comcast cablecard experience? how's the quality like? I wouldn't imagine why it would be vastly superior than the STB's, but one can hope/dream...

also, this will most linke be viewed on a 1080p screen, now sure if that will actually make it look worse?

For quantity-Direct tv hands down, Dish network is 2nd. I currently have Dish network but if Direct tv will ever offer HD locals in my area, I will switch.

For Quality-if you can get FIOS, get it. the sats may have more right now, but fiber quality looks better (no overcompression).
