i had AT&T Uverse and the picture quality was gorgeous. so nice, in fact, that i was convinced *some non-HD channels were HD. most SD channels were beautiful. never understood the horror people got when they watched SD on their HDTV.... now i have comcast and that horror is realized. Comcast HD looks okay (7/10), but comcast SD looks worse than a poor antenna reception
Depending on where you are Comcast has a fair amount of hd channels (and as far as I know they use less compression then DirectTv). You should check with your comcast branch to see how many hd channels they offer and compare the lineup with dish and directv.

If the compression is better than previously with DirecTV's new satellite, then they win, hands down. Apparently, the quality of their HD broadcasts have been sub-par compared to other providers up to this point. Now they have an unmatched lineup in numebr sof HD channels; I guess quality is the only thing to look into. One caveat: even though the channel might be HD, doesn't mean that their is a lot, if any, HD content broadcast on that channel....
I would still go with DirecTV though. They sound pretty commited, at least.

I have Insight, with the Motorola DVR and it looks nice...
Most Satellite companies have shitty blocking with their service.
AVS forum has a nice thread with screenshots of the different services.

Sorry, their forum was down, that was the reason for the omitted link, well and dial-up...:
