Best Hard Drive Source?

In reading many Newegg user reviews, their packaging is suspect. Apparently drives have built in max shock sensors and if you do a diagnostic on the drive this shipping shock can be detected.

Newegg seems to favor bubble wrap for OEM drives and bubble wrap is not consider adequate HDD packaging.

So who is the best source for purchasing HDD that are correctly packaged?

Dell is great. Amazon also if I remember correct. Newegg is pretty bad. These are the only 3 vendors I've bought drives from recently.

To be fair, I've probably purchased 7 or so drives from Newegg. They've all been packed pretty shitty, but I only had one drive come DOA. This could have had nothing to do with the packing. The other drives work with no problems.

I would say, Dell, ZZF, egg (depending on which warehouse)... but ZZF is pretty slow shipping, if you are on the east coast, since they only have 1 warehouse, and that is on the west coast.

if you buy retail drives, the packing is usually better. the drive is suspended within it's retail box in addition to the other packing. newegg seems to only want to carry OEM's, though.
