I had some sort of anomoly while booting up today and am now concerned with the condition of my hd. It's a Seagate sata drive. So far I d/led the Seatools cd image and booted to it, ran the test, and it passed. Then I ran a chkdsk /f and that found no errors either. What else should/could I do? I'm running XP pro, using the ntfs file system. I don't mis-handle or otherwise misuse my hd. It is secured to the case very well with 4 screws, mounted in the conventional horizontal direction.
Thanks for your input.

some sort of anomoly
Can you be more specific? Also, if you ran the Seagate tools already, and found nothing, plus chkdsk and neither found errors I'd say you are fine. If you let us know what the "anomoly" is (error message or something...) we might be able to help you find any potential problem.

Well when I let it boot up into xp normally, it got stuck at the blue "welcome" screen. Then I tried to boot into safe mode to remove the theme I had just installed the last time I was booted into xp. But while loading all the safe mode files, it said it was missing some NT file or something. I didn't let the entire Seatools sector scan run, maybe I'll run that overnight because it seems like it will need a good several hours... I did run the quick test though, and it didn't find errors. o_0

You might be experiencing memory problems, which could give HD data corruption. Something to consider. Always write down missing file names and error codes. Makes trouble shooting easier.
