My hands get pretty dry and the Vaseline Intensive Care crap that I'm using isn't doing the job... what is the best one to use that I can buy in a regular grocery store?

Some of the best stuff is also the cheapest. My dad has chronically dry hands (some skin condition that i forget the name for) so he has tried just about everything out there. "Udder Cream" worked better than the really expensive stuff for him. I used to use it after ceramics class too since that will suck the moisture right out of your hands. They sell it at walmart.

I don't like Vaseline Intensive Car much. I have some Curel that works better.

I use this stuff, and it works great. It's a bit spendy, but it's not greasy, and it smells pretty good.

the absolute best lotion for dry skin is
one that contains 10% urea. this will not be cheap ($6.00-$10.00 per bottle)
go to your grocery store or superstore pharmacy and ask the pharmacist which skin lotion they carry with 10% urea.
it won't have any brand name you've ever heard of, but it will be over the counter (no prescription needed)
this is what a dermatologist would recommend if you went to them with dry skin. i kid you not - you will be pleased.
by the way, when you apply this cream to your hands, you will experience a slight prickly/tingling sensation - ahhhh!

I'm a big fan of Burt's Bees Hand Salve available from drugstore.com or burtsbees.com
the skin on my index finger on my right hand gets dry and cracks and peels. I don't like most hand moisturizers because they leave your hand all gooey and you feel like you can't touch anything for 5 minutes after you put it on.
This stuff isn't like that, and if I'm consistent about putting it on several times throughout the day, my skin does not get chapped and crack or peel. I'm fairly sure that I have exzema (sp?), mostly because my mother has it. She treats hers by soaking her hands in this nasty tar stuff...my solution is much more pleasant. I just told her about the burts bees stuff and she's going to try that instead :)

Yeah, it's strange, but my mom uses some time of hoof lotion- for horses- to keep her hands moisturized. She likes it.

If you're near a Restoration Hardware store, they sell a cream called "No-Crack" which is AMAZING stuff.

Peto - if you use 10% urea containing hand lotion on a "sensitive" part of your body, you will not be pleased.

when applied to dry skin, this lotion rehydrates the skin most effectively. I know because i have very dry skin from constantly washing my hands at work, and a dermatologist recommended this to me, when nothing else seemed to work.
