hi all, that is what I am in need of! new PC and I need a solution to output 5.1 to a HT receiver. what are my options?

Thanks!

If you are going digital to the receiver and letting the receiver decode, I'd just get a video card with HDMI that can handle audio.

If you are looking analog out to your receiver....well....I won't be of much help.

the receiver is an old school pioneer elite, no HDMI out. I guess Im looking for something that can output DD and DTS in a half height PCI format.

Can't use a single digital feed (optical/coax)?

That said, most modern onboard audio will output multi-channel analog audio.

If you need something small, theres nothing smaller than onboard audio.
Most decent motherboards do 5.1 analog and many have SPDIF connections nowadays as well.

the Machine is an old dell 745 i see that the asus card has provisions for DTS, can it do dolby digital as well?
