Best hackintosh notebook?

I currently have a macbook pro (last gen), an iMac 24 and a core duo (2 gen ago) macbook. I kinda stepped on the macbook so now it will not read dvd and the thing is slowly falling apart. The laptop's my wife's and I would like to replace it but can't afford $1,000 right now.

Are there any laptops out there from a major vendor that'll work out of the box? I'd like to spend $700 total, including a legit copy of OS X.

The smaller and lighter the better, but not a netbook - she needs to run final cut pro and adobe CS3 suite on it.

Thanks!

Ha, the macbook pro is my work computer.

She didn't even ask for me to replace it, I just feel bad that she has jump through some hoops to burn a dvd.. And the mouse acts a little funky too.

I could just get it fixed, but as she gets back into design, a more powerful system would be nice

Have you considered a Whitebook? They're like $900 (refurb, none in the apple store right now), a little past your stated budget, but have the advantage of legit OSX, and still have firewire (unlike the aluminum macbooks). If she's doing design and using Final Cut Pro, I'd imagine she might have a need to import video via FW.

Or this deal:

$799 AR for a Whitebook. New.

Says 90 day retailer warranty applies; don't know if Apple's own refurb warranty also applies.

Wow. That's a very good deal. Between that and the $900 (new) whitebook, it'd be hard to pass.

I wonder, are those refurbished by Apple or someone else? I can vouch that Apple's refurbs are basically new. Don't know about others.

EDIT: The site says "reseller refurbished" so YMMV. I doubt they replace non-broken cosmetic parts like Apple tends to do, but it could very well be just as good.
