I just moved from the west side of the valley up to the north part of the 51 and am not having any luck finding a decent gym. I work in the Biltmore area, and would be open to going somewhere around there as well. Only thing I've seen either by work or by my place that's a regular, non-boot-campish gym is Youfit and Planet Fitness, both of which apparently frown on grunting from exertion or dropping heavy weights....so....no bueno....

Recommendations??

You can try Fitness 1 on 7th street & Union Hills. It is a smaller gym and grunting is not frowned upon. At least in my experience when I went there for a couple weeks for a test run. They have two squat racks and a couple squat cages with one of them having bumper plates.

Yay for bumper plates! I'm gonna have to check this place out; looks like it's only $15/month. Thank you!

Dude, hate to break it to you, but you are not west valley. :p Biltmore is Scottsdale area, east valley. You need to be west of the west loop 101 to be considered west valley.

That said, I lift at YouFit because its close by and the price is right. Unlike Planet Fitness, they don't ban the best exercises either.

Also, most chain gyms all ban dropping heavy weights because its a safety issue.
