Im looking to join a gym. I have a Bally's, 24 fitness, and an la fitness all within 5 minutes of me. I really just wanna lift weights and not pay too much. I like 24 fitness cause I can workout after work. Do any of theese gyms have a swimming pool, or basketball courts? Im gonna walk into one of theese gyms today and sign up. Which one should I sign up for? also, what would you reccommend I do. I heard theese guys are like sales sharks.

The LA Exercise Plan works great. (basically, you just jog to LA and back until you're skinny) It's not as effective if you live on the west coast though.

LA Fitness is good but they're too expensive. No way I'm spending 150/month even after my company discount.

I use NYSC and they're really good. A couple of their locations have swimming pools.

I go to the company-sponsored gym here at my work's campus. My wife had a Bally's membership, and a YMCA one - I think she liked the Y better.

my mom signed me up on her Ballys account and i started going. I really am enjoying it and i even got two personal training sessions with mine.

I can say my mom has been a member of Ballys since 1991 and goes religiously. She likes it...

There are a few gyms in my area. Theres Ballys, Golds Gym, Lifetime Fitness, and the Columbia Association Supreme Sports Club. There are also little gyms here and there.

Lifetime Fitness is a very nice gym. I've worked out there a few times. It's large and clean. But I workout at the Columbia Association's gym. It's smaller, and doesnt have as much equipment, but Im not going to a gym to be comfortable and happy. Im there for one thing, to lift weights and get out. I like the smaller, dirtier gyms better.

STAY AWAY FROM BALLY and CRUNCH Fitness! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Do your research on the internet first and get lots of reviews. Bally will screw you w/ a 3 yr contract that you can never get out of... even if they tear down the physical building you signed up at (which happened to me). They will relocate you within 20 miles. Bally is the devil.

Workout World in the Boston area is nice, 29 a month for the first year, 19.99 each year thereafter, and I get a 150.00 rebate from blue cross, they open at 4:30am so I can get in a decent workout before going to work. Good equipment, good airconditioning on the hot days, and good people as members, not a meat market pretending to be a gym.

Bally's will probably be the cheapest. The only reason I go to bally's is because I pay like $130/yr for my membership. That price can't be beat. It is however far from the nicest gym I've been in. All of the Bally's I've been too however have a pool as well.

If you are gonna register for Bally's let me know, I'll refer you :p

Bally's sucks. They are cheap at first, but they start increasing the prices once you have been there a few years.

24 Hour Fitness is the one I go to now. I find it is good because they have just about everything but they aren't expensive and they are just about everywhere, but it isn't ritzy and posh (which I find rather amusing when a workout palce seems more like a resort than a gym). The only thing that sucks is that there aren't many Super Sport 24 Hour Fitness Gyms near me, so I don't get to play ball at the gym (which might be a good thing considering my injuries).

I have heard LA Fitness is really nice (all of them have Bball courts) and I have heard it is a little more upscale, but I don't think upscale is necessary at a gym.

They have a place called Lifetime which is like a resort in Houston (they even have an indoor simulated beach inside and a mini water park), but the cost is crazy and I figure it isn't condusive to how I work out anyways.

$450 for 3 years for 24 Hr Fitness here, and then $99/year after that. ;) You just have to haggle with the seller and be willing to go somewhere else.

Go for a cheaper gym with a large selection of free weights, bikes for cardio. Maybe a treadmill if you like to run. But overall it depends on your goals... so in summary, don't go for Globogym crap, go for Average Joe's. ;)

LA Fitness is good because you can get out of it if you want and they've got everything you could want and are huge.

I probably spend $100+ every month on supps. I like Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey, never tried the brand found in your link.

I was a member at the YMCA for about 3yrs. At that time, the YMCA was close to my work and I can play bball during my lunch break.

I'm currently now a member at LA fitness. $25/month, no contracts(just montly fee) and $50 dollars joining fee.
The gym was currently built, so all the equipment is new and ALL LA fitness gyms have bball courts and swimming pool.
I don't like 24fitness because you have to sign up for the "sports package" to use the gym with a bball court and swimming pool.

Yeah Optimum is the next best thing to custom IMO.
I use an "All purpose" mix every morning that consists of:
20% Aussie Caseinate
10% Egg White Protein
20% Iso-Chill Whey Isolate
10% Soy Protein Isolate
10% IPI Protein Isolate
20% Dextrose
10% Flax Powder
Splenda sweetener
It came to 6.14/lb, I think Optimum is around $5.50/lb. Pretty good because it has a fast/slow release with flax for dietary fiber.

After workouts, I use another mix that is around 45% dextrose and the rest different types of whey isolate and creatine. That is $6.70/lb.

Besides scheduling muscle specific workouts, I have to schedule my supplements, as Im sure you're already familiar with. I would not have time to make a custom shake three times a day.

24 hour fitness is a big group of jerks... once you join, they push very hard to get a personal trainer and try to sell their products to you..

they conned me out of money.. :|

I had taken a personal trainer and it was a 6 month contract. (Had to finish 20 classes in 6 months or less). In between I feel ill and I contacted my trainer about extending the period from 6 months to 1 year. She agreed and when I returned to the gym, she was like.."No.. your contract is over. Period."

I lost 12 classes with my trainer because of this. I had already paid for those classes in the beginning.

I am now a member of Planet Fitness. I would highly recommend it to everyone. Its a wonderful place. No one is trying to see you anything there. Just drop by and workout...

IMO, for a man there's only one way to go: A power rack. Supplement with a good set of dumbbells and you have everything you need. There's no need for having 30 different machines for each type of exercise.

I hate gyms, and I especially hate popular gyms. I'd much prefer to work out at my own pace without interruption or distraction.
