If my memory serves me correctly, look for a VooDoo 5500. It's been a long time but, those cards were the poop back then....

Seriously? Somthing crap (in my opinion) like a radeon 9600 would be limited by this then?

A 64bit 9600SE would probably be a good fit.

Whatever cheap 9600 series card you can find, I guess.

I run a ti4200 with a P3 1.2 Tualatin.

OMG yes this card is amazing i still have one with an old Athlon xp 1800+ rig, it might only have 64MB of video RAM, but ill tell you this it can run games like NFS underground at 1024 x 768 pretty well, IIRC as it is now a dedicated FP and DB server.

Depends on if your board has 4x AGP or not. If it does, then like a Ti 500 or Radeon 8500 would be a good match.

Ok, well i found a Ti4200 for 25 pounds on ebay, not much else tbh. I found a 9000 PRO at 11 pounds! Two questions.

1. Is it significantly better than a Geforce 4 MX440? or MX4000?

2. Would i be better off with with a cheap new card?

X850XT PE AGP 256MB :) Why not.... it will easy push 5FPS in CS Source maybe 3FPS in DOD Source

Dude why bother the thing isnt going to play games made after 2002 .. just go out and get a geforce4mx for $15 and be done with it.

You underestimate the power of old hardware.

my geforce 2 gts has lasted pretty far with my p3 933...most games are cpu limited (for a 933) so don't go spending more than $50 for a 4200...

I'm runnig a GeForce 3 Ti500 in an old Compaq Dual P3 866MHz Workstation. It runs most games fine (including Unreal 2 powered Lineage 2) and is very quiet.

Best bets for a P3 1GHz would be:

GeForce 3 (any of)
GeForce 4 Ti4200 (recommended)
Radeon 8500 AIW
Radeon 9000 pro
GeForce FX 5200

Awsome, this is actually a dual p3 1ghz. Ill go look at some benches and see which would be the best bang for buck.
