Ive decided its time that i upgraded my graphics card so i can play the latest games with good settings. I currently have a 9500gt and am thinking of getting an 8800gt which i can get for £80-£90, would this be a good upgrade? would i notice alot of difference? or does anyone know any better cards i can get for this price? Thanks

I'd definitely shoot for a 460 768mb or at least a radeon 5770. It just doesn't make sense to upgrade unless you are going to get a serious improvement.

Unfortunatly im on a pretty strict budget so those cards are out of my price range, from what ive read the 8800gt would be a good upgrade and would double the performance of the 9500gt?

These are the two best cards from both vendors for around your price range:

AMD : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/251996 (this one being slightly faster in all games to the nVIDIA)

nVIDIA : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/240110 (this being marginally faster than a 8800GT in some games and faster in others)

That amount of money for a 8800GT is way too much in my opinion, and you can get the green versions of the 9800GT for around £60 which is slower but not excessively slower.

Only the PSU matters when the budget is fairly limited. £100 isn't going to allow you to overbuy for any resolution.
But, if GTX465 and HD5830s are on the table, power consumption could potentially be an issue, especially since most 9500GT systems tend to be prebuilts generally speaking.

well he could have a single core P4 and be playing at 1024x768 for all we know. giving advice before we know what his pc consists of is pretty useless.

Agreed. OP, we do need some more details about your computer.

Right on the money FRY's is a good place to go they got bunch of budget video cards for HTCP or general use not hardcore gaming use. thx and gg and gb

Sorry but Frys doesn't exist in the UK, as far as I know.

Post your specs OP.

Also, 8800gt is a an old as bejesus video card and would be a waste of money nowadays.

I looked through his post history and found this from 9 months go when he asked about upgrading the 9500gt then. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2072758&highlight=

Ah sorry, heres the specs of my computer:
2.60 gigahertz AMD Phenom II X4 810
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT
ASRock N68-S

is there anything you need? I dont really know what resolution i play at, becuase i sometimes play on my computer screen and sometimes on my telly, but its usually 1024/768 or 1600/900 on my tv i think? But i will be playing on a 19in lcd tv soon, so i am unsure what resolution ill be using on that

Hmm i dont know what psu i have, how can i find out? what is considered a strong psu?

If power consumption is a concern, the HD 5770 is your best option.

If power consumption is not a concern, the GTX 465 is your best option.
