Hey, im saving up to build a custom pc at the moment, and i was wondering if a gtx 580 would max out battlefield, on 1920x1080 res and at ultra setting, with an intel i7 2600k cpu and 16gb DDR3 1600mhz ram. Thanks

Is your CPU overclocked to at at least 4GHz? If not DO IT! It has an unlocked multiplier. A GTX 580 will do the job no problem.

A gtx 580 is not quite fast enough to play at full ultra settings with acceptable frame rates for multiplayer (IMO, YMMV). It is with AA off. If you want a single card that can play BF3 at full ultra with high frame rates you'll have to wait for the next gen cards coming out this spring.

I think a 580 struggles to completely max BF3 in 64 player online at 1920x1080, the 7970s are just releasing now and should drop in price in the next few weeks as availability picks up, you'd probably be best with one of those, they're faster than the 580 but they also have very high overclocking margins.

Yeah it's looking like the 7970's will overclock to around 6990 performance, which is pretty attractive.

I max out Bf3 on a 580 but only at 1680 x 1050 res, not 1080p. 2600K @ 4GHz, 580 mildly OCed at 875 core.

My GTX 570 Superclocked is within punching distance of a 580 - I'm hoping it'll do the job for most games on high - not necessarily ultra.

580's will be going down in price over the next few days so wait if you're dead set on one.
