Best GeForce MX Card?

I keep reading rave reviews of the Prophet MX but I've had bad experiences with Hercules products in the past. I currently have an Elsa TNT2 based card and have nothing but priase for the quality of the card and have had zero problems with it. I guess what I'm asking is...is it worth it to buy a "name" brand like Elsa, Creative, ASUS, etc... or go with a "no name" like VisionTek?

It depends on the features you are looking for. If you don't need any special features, I would check out the eVGA one. The only problem with the VisionTek I think is that is uses 7ns ram, which is actually rated for less than the speed they ship the memory at but the rated speeds of memory chips don't always mean much.

I see they are all down in price quite a bit. If you want to save some bucks, go with the eVGA. The ASUS wouldn't be a bad choice as it has some better features such as TV-OUT.

If the special features on one card or another does not interest you then get the lowest cost card you can find. The performance will be the same. Only the add-on options will be different...

Hercules was bought by Guillimount (Sp?) and they did some really good products in the past. I heard that the Prophet used the Hitachi memory chips and are rated as one of the best (7.5ns). Creative is also rated High, as far as ASUS I have heard some problems with them in the past, check Tomshardware.

For what it's worth, the December issue of PCWorld gave a #1 rating to CardExpert's GeForce2 MX. I have never heard of CardExpert before but it's a 4X AGP NVidia GeForce2 MX chip with 32MB SDRAM and 350MHz RAMDAC. If you go for the version that doesn't have TV-Out it runs approximately $109 plus shipping. At that price I think it's worth looking into but I'd like to hear the opinions of others here.

Like has been said above, if you aren't looking for any special featues that a particular card has, go for the cheapest. The OEM Hercules has slower memory that the full retail version..apparently that does give a performance increase.
