Best GC SSDs (non-TRIM)?

Getting a new rig together that will be running the ASRock Extreme11 with it's built in LSI 2308 chip and I plan on getting 3-4 128GB SSDs together in RAID-0.

So since I'm under the presumption that TRIM support still isn't available for RAID setups, other then Z7X boards from Intel...what would be the best option for SSD selection with solid inherent garbage collection. This can also be utilities combined with the SSDs, like the new Samsung's Pro included software.

Right now, all that I can think of is the Plextor M5 Pro, Corsair Performance Pro, and Samsung 840 Pro.

Thanks in advance for the input and help!

Most Intel SSDs can use the Intel SSD Toolbox ( free, downloadable) for scheduled optimization and diagnostics ..

Once you hook the SSD's to the LSI, all of the utilities become suspect in working properly, so if you plan on only using them attached to the LSI, I wouldn't be too concerned about any software that comes with it.

Was not aware of this, then what are the best passive GC drives then?

No idea, not exactly a normally published stat nor do I see people test it in typical reviews so asking which GC pattern is the "best" is kinda hard to answer (fyi: GC programming patterns are considered trade secrets by SSD makers so they aren't going to advertise exactly how/when/what they do it, even if they all do similar things). That being said, GC of all the good name-branded SSD's are going to have comparable GC as far as consumer drives are concerned since they are all design-based around the same expected user usage patterns.

I believe Sandforce drives are the the best for passive GC. I know Anand was not happy with Samsungs on this particular issue.

The Sammy's need to be idling a bit before the controller will start GC. I have a couple in my macbook and mac mini and just leave them idle at login for an hour about once a month. Havent had any issues or noticed any performance decreases etc if that gives you an idea.

Nevertheless, if you dont want to worry about that probably want to go with an Intel Cherryville 330/520 or their upcoming refreshes for best Sandforce firmware and more aggressive controller GC
