Best gaming video card out at the moment? (cpu question too)

Hi everyone,
I'm planning on building an uber-pc in a few months, and I've got a few questions...

What is the best gaming card out at the moment? Are there any significant releases coming within the next few months I should wait for?

CPU wise - I'm thinking of getting an Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (maybe a 4800+ if the price is down by then, build is planned for June or July), but I heard from a person that AMD is replacing the socket 939 soon...is this true? Also, are there any significant releases coming within the next few months I should wait for?

Thanks for any help!

It doesn't make sense to ask this until the day you're ready to buy, too much will change, but click the Video tab at the top of the page to see the top nvidia and ATI cards today.

Yes, AMD M2 and intel Conroe are coming later this year, and right now it looks like intel will actually have the fastest gaming CPU by the end of the year. Click the link to read about it.

Also look for existing discussions here like:
AMD M2 worth the jump

Okay, thanks...looks like the Conroe is where I'm going...too bad the release is at least six months away and will for sure have inflated prices and short supply.

Oh well! More time for me to save more money.

Thats a good way to look at it.

Look, right know its the FX-60 and 7900GTX, but in a few months time everything will have already changed drastically.

Then start up a company as reputable as Anandtech Louissss.

No one cares, Hard and ANand have the same benchies and they are EQUAL.

I understand you want to believe your x1900xt is better but it's not.

My rig is better than yours anyways.

No it's not. And you have to prove me wrong with 2 of the best reviewers in the world.

You can't man, so I'm sorry YOU'RE WRONG. My cards are inferior to both (7800 512's). I don't really care. I could buy 8 of those x1900s and throw them in crossfire but I don't need them because they're equivalent to 7900 gtx's which are like 10 percent if that better than my 7800 512's so no.

In order for the 7900 GTX to really look good compared to the X1900 XT, we will have to push below the $500 mark. NVIDIA has positioned the 7900 GTX as a $500 part, but we can already find X1900 XT cards for about $475; with the tight competition, we would really like to see NVIDIA take advantage of their cost saving die sizes and bring prices down.

The NVIDIA solutions use less power, generate less heat, and are cheaper to produce, but what matters in the end is the performance the end user gets for the price he or she pays. Yes, the 7900 GTX performs on par with the X1900 XT and XTX. With ATI's additional features, will NVIDIA's street prices be low enough to entice gamers? We'll have to wait and see.

439$ Brand Spaking new No more needs to be said and it seems the 7900gtx cant handle higher resolution then the x1900xt can.

Where the hell are you drwaing these "can't draw high resolutions than the x1900xt"? These are the most stupid remarks I have ever seen, and not to worry,I cannot wait to see who flames you next.
You can't even spell MystupidMouth... how old are youman seriously? You're so ignorant that ATi's RD580 is equal toa 7900GTX

Have you seen those benchmarks? Seriously?

Powercolor also has the most horrible warranty in the game. Don't lie, just admit you were wrong.

Also anand DID NOT FACTOR PRICE INTO his last statement, he said the 7900GTX needs to be a lower but he said it performs ON PAR.

Where does it not perform ON PAR mr "Stupidmouth"? I'd like to see, thank you.l

And the 7800 512's are inferior to the 7900GTX's by about 10 percent. I can buy about 10 X1900xt's, have you seen my rig? Look in the cooling section? It's much more expensive than a precious argument over ATI being better than nVidia, I'm done arguing with children.

Look at the higher rez on bf2 and fear. the x1900xt gets more frames then it.

x1900xt 439$ > 7900GTX 500-539$

Lol, The 7900GTX is selling very well, it's a term called pRICE gouging.

Also comparing a powercolor radeon to an eVGA isn't very fair now is it? Considering one has the best warranty out of any card manufacturer and the othe one has a poor warranty.

Compare a sapphire retail boxed X1900xt versus an unclocked 7900 GTX eVGA.

55.5 versus 48.8 for the X1900 in BF2, but in SLI, the 7900 GTX WINS @ 83.7 vs 81.2

Then for Fear, I see the x1900XT vs the 7900GTX at 28 vs 27? That's negligible.

Also in SLI versus Crossfire for that SAME resolution it's 50 forthe 7900 GTX in SLI versus an abysmal 39 in the x1900xt crossfire?

YOU're WRONG, they're on PAR!

You're contradicting yourself again. And by the way, you don't own both cards so which one did you return, or is one a friends?
