hi all,

my brother asked me to put together a new mid-range gaming system for him. he plays mostly WoW type games so I don't think video performance is a huge issue, but i would like to get him the best for the money. he will likely upgrade video in 1-2 years and wants to spend around $120 for the video card right now.

i'm looking at the following: (all from newegg)

EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card ($89.99 AR)

EVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card ($128.99 AR)

SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 VIVO Video Card ($119.99)

i checked the tom's hardware vga charts and it looks like the best option would be the X1900GT, but i wanted to get input here since truthfully i haven't kept up on the latest hardware.

thanks for any advice.

If you can swing $150AR for a 7950GT, that would be your best bet.

For $100AR you can have a 7900GS, which would also be a good choice :)

-Actually, looks like the GS is "Sold Out", as per the OP and retailer's website. I don't know if they'll be getting more or not.

thanks for the suggestions. i think the 7950 is a bit too much for his budget, and anyway several people in the other thread mention how loud it is. i'd prefer something not too noisy if possible.

for a mid-range system would the 7900GS really make much of a difference over a 7600GT? i'd say max is $120, but $90 would be better!

right now i think he has a geforce 5100, so almost anything would be a huge improvement! :)
