my price range is $50-150

i need speakers for my comp (5.1 is fine, 6/7.1 seems overkill but is fine also) that'll be good for gaming and music (i don't need anything with a huge bass), i won't be playing anything loud, so i want a speaker with no distortion

ty

btw, i will be using the onboard karajan module on my dfi lanparty ut ultra-d mobo (supports up to 7.1/8ch), i've heard that it's decent - what's your opinion (if you own it)?

Best sound for gaming would be headphones. But if you really want speakers then I'd go with the best Logitech speakers you can afford. I don't think you can get a good set of Klipsch speakers with your price range.

yea i want speakers, since sometimes i'm already wearing something else(i.e. glasses, earphones, etc.)

also, klipsch speakers above 150 are better than the logitech ones? are there good klipsche speakers for ~$200? i mean i could always spend a little more if the difference is a lot

also, are the z-5300e logitechs good?

I don't have an opinion about Klipsch's desktop speakers.
I have Z-680 with which I'm very pleased. Now the equivalent are Z-5500.
Z-5300 must have the same quality and in your price range they are a good choice IMO.
I have heard also Creative's speakers and I find their sound pretty much the same with Logitech's,but I like the latter's design better.

680s are out of your pricerange then

Either 5300 set would be a good choice. For $150 I don't think you can do better for a 5.1 set. Like I said, I think the 5300e set is just the 5300 set in a different color scheme.

Do you need it to be surround?
If not, you can get a nicer sounding 2.1 or 2.0 system that will be better for music, but you'll miss out on the surround effects in gaming naturally.

Are you talking about a creative inspire set?

I've only heard one creative inspire set, and it wasn't even at medium volume so I can't really say too much about them.

I used to own the z-560 set and thought it was very good for the money.

Getting a standard audigy 2 wouldn't be a bad idea.

The DFI Ultra-D onboard audio is more than adequate IMHO. I use Klipsch 5.1's and it sounds real nice.

For speakers look at the Klipsch 2.1's

thx for the link

however, i want 5.1 (or higher) because i've experienced 3 speakers vs 6 or 7 and 3 speakers just doesn't give me the experience 6 or 7 does

save money and buy a set of bookshelf speakers and a receiver. Once you do this you'll never think about computer speakers again. GUARANTEED. Now that I've upgraded to LSi9s powered by separates I cant think of anything better.

For $50 to $150?

I'm as much a fan of real speakers as the next guy, but I wouldn't recomment if for this budget, especially if he wants to use it for gaming and already mentioned that he wants more than 2.1.

I said save money so he can start off properly. Once he gets a substandard speaker set he's going to want more, might as well save get a solid 2.1 system and build from there. I got into the hobby for something like 400 bucks for the first pair of speakers and a sub. I'm sure he can start a 2.0/2.1 system for less if he goes used.

From my experience, Klipsch speakers are AWESOME. But it also comes with a pretty hefty sticker price. I think their speakers are really nice to own but remarkably overpriced.

Z-640 here. Full 5.1 for $65 shipped.

If you're gonna spend $400 for a pair of speakers get some nice floorstanding home theater speakers, not some lame ass computer speakers.
