I need some help choosing the best mousepad for gaming. I currently have a ratzpad GS with a MX 700 (which has worn it down in a year). I am thinking about getting a mx 518 or a new G5, and I'm not sure what new mousepad to get. Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appretiated.

No. Not the fUncpad with the G5. It is optimized for optical mice.
The rough side works better for optical mice so ive always used it. Its slicker, and tracked better. Its still as slick with my G5, but the laser sensor cant track it for sh*t.
If you get the funcpad+g5, be prepared to have to use the sticky side. So called, "smooth" side.
I'm regretting the G5 at this point, just pick up a 518.

I have an MX518 and I really like it. The mousepad I use is a $5 black fabric one from Officemax. Everything works perfect, no need to buy a $30-$50 special "gamer" mousepad. I use this combo to play BF2 and I've had no problems with tracking, etc.

Some people, life myself, prefer as-fast-as-possible movement. Thats all. If you dont need it, we're not pressuring you into buying it.
Im going to pick up the Steelpad QcK+ and see how it works out. If its not that great, oh well, its only $12. 20 at max with shipping. Some laser-specific pads are soon to be out.

I just have a plain 3 dollar mouse pad from office depot. No need for a nice fancy one.

With the rechargable mice, they are heavier. A nice slick mouse pad would make the mouse slide better. With cloth pad, you need to move the mouse with a big more "strength".
However, no matter what I use, my MX1000 would kinda stick to the mouse pad(plastic mouse pad...eg. WowPad) if I don't move the mouse for like 30 secs. Any solution to that? I hate that sticky feeling!

This is exactly the reason why people like having high quality mouse pads - because we WANT there to be a difference. 😀 My particular one has a teflon coating on it, and that, coupled with the slick surface on my mouse makes little or no friction at all. My desk has much more resistance- and yes- there is a huge difference.

The mouse pads we are talking about are for gamers who want as little friction as possible on their mouse. I used to think that these things were wastes of money, and that I had it all figured out- like you.. then I tried one for the heck of it, and couldn't believe the difference. In fact, it was hard to get used to at first because it was so slippery.

^ well, I would agree that it IS a little overboard to pay so much money for this little luxory. It isn't necessary, it's just a fun thing to have- and they work pretty well. Also, I'm a weakling and I don't want to use my muscles. 😀

It is necassery to some people. Depends what you use your computer for. Me= competitive gaming. The less friction on my mouse, the better.
I have an older one of these. They literally made my MX700 fly 😀

I think you should clean the feet of your mouse. And if that doesn't help enough, there is teflontape on the market to stick underneath the feet. (s.c. "mouseskates" or "sliders")
At the moment I don't use a mouse pad but I am seriously considering getting a grey Icemat. Does anyone here have experience with that icemat /mx1000 combo?

I tried cleaning the mouse feet. It works for about 1/2 hr, then, it gets sticky again. My hand has no grease or dirt whatsoever. I don't know how it gets sticky. Also, I tried one of the slick mouse feet before, they slide better. But they get stickier than original mouse feet. Any other suggestion?

They beta tested their pads in the forums a while ago. Seems like the one I have has been replaced by the C4-NGen05. They look the same to me though, not quite sure what the difference is.
