Honestly, if you don't mind a bit of shipping and receiving then I would suggest trying each type out for yourself. Everyone here will tell you what they think is the best but you want what you think is the best. My opinion is I've never been one for cloth pads and glass ones make paranoid because I know it would break eventually knowing my luck. I tried a func pad and I wore a dent right in the middle within a couple months and got annoying as my mouse would skip when going over it.

I picked up a ulti-mat after reading awesome reviews and it holds up to the reviews. Solid structure, great foam pad backing (doesn't budge at all), and it's easy as hell to clean when dirt/oil builds up.

So give it a shot ...

Glass mousepad for under $30? Try again

Anyhow I think the Razer exactmat, Func surface, or icemat are the best options.

As I've stated in a couple other posts, I'm partial to the free eXactMat I got. Better than the Ratpadz (that I paid for) in thickness, feel, durability and it includes a gel wrist rest.

Wrist rest doesn't hold up the all that well though. I've got a groove in the center where I tend to wrest my hand :(

Razer PRO pad or eXact mat....they are exactly the same thing except for the color. I have used the PRO pad and it is awsome, i liked it so much that I have an eXact mat on the way from newegg (ordered on Tuesday and they haven't even got it past step 1 though....i'm a bit dissapointed).

I'm using just the desktop surface for the most part these days since the newer laser mice work well without pads. Just need to remember to clean/dust the desk regularly to keep gunk off the bottom of the mouse. I do have a really large pad I picked up from COMP USA. Its nothing special just a regular pad quality wise but its like 12inches x 18inches in size. It works well and keeps the bottom of the mouse from getting gunky buildup. $20 I think it was. Can probably find them cheaper online.

I wouldn't bother with a gaming pad when you could get a workstation or server pad.
A server pad may be overkill, but they rock.

I use a SuperMat, costs like 5 bucks, great for gaming because its huge, I used to have a FuncPad and my mouse would always fall off the sides while playing CS, etc.
