Best gaming monitor?

Well unfortunately it seems my Sony G420S is starting to go out. I dont think it will last too much longer. The screen shakes and it has burn in on it and seems to be getting worse.

I need to replace it but Sony doesn't make these anymore. That is too bad because it is the best monitor I have ever seen in terms of picture quality. But they dont seem to last very long and alot of times they dont work right.

I think it is past the warranty so I guess it's time to buy a new one.

Mostly I need a gaming monitor and graphics design. Also one that has really good text from corner to corner. Color accuracy needs to be perfect.

Is it time to buy a LCD yet? have they caught up with CRT's yet? If so which LCD should I buy?

Also, is it still possible to buy a New Sony CRT? 21" or maybe bigger?

When it comes to buying monitors I dont mind spending alot of money. As long as it is a monitor with perfect image quality. This is why I liked Sony so much. Way expensive but image quality second to none.

So what's the best monitor (19"-28") out there right now for gaming if price isn't an issue?

Thanks for any suggestions. Sorry if this is a repost I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Ok i need to ask one more question. Where can I find a Sony FW900 new with a full warranty? Is that even possible at this point?

As long as I buy it new Sony has to warranty it for 3 years?

I am browsing around the net looking but maybe someone here knows where I could possibly buy this monitor new?

Thanks for any help guys, also if there is any different monitor I should consider please let me know.

Ya that one definitely looks like a good option. I have been reading about that one a little.
Thanks for the link. :)

I imagine I will end up getting that or maybe a SonyFW900 if I could possibly find one.

You know, this gets repeated everywhere, but I'm beginning to question if it's still the case. My GF is a graphic designer creating movie art. The company she works for has recently had a serious push for color correctness to make things easier with outsourced printing. The color correction expert they brought in recommended weekly calibration for their LCDs. For CRTs he recommended daily calibration. He was happy to see that they mostly all use LCDs.

AccurateIT used to have some new FW900s (for their original $2400 price), but that was quite some time ago. I don't think you're going to find any new ones these days. The FP2141/2070SB is actually better in some ways, but I would be careful with that one on Newegg. NEC/Mitsu and Sony both released a lot of broken duds into the market before they stopped production of their respective models, and the few brand new ones out there are almost all from those final batches. You may actually be better off getting a used one from ebay or AccurateIT.

The new Dell 30" LCD has better color reproduction then the previous one. It's also got more then a few pixels.

Gaming can be done in 2560x1600 for amazing clarity or if your video card can't push it ... you can game at 1280x720, 1280x768, and 1280x800 for pixel perfect huge screen gaming.

The NEC 20WMGX2 is, by far, the best overall gaming LCD. It has the best contrast, color tracking, viewing angles, and uniformity at this kind of response time (<10ms actual for ALL tones). Input lag is also among the lowest. The BenQ FP241W isn't far behind, but it won't be as good as the NEC in basically all categories, except for size and resolution where it will exceed the NEC. The BenQ FP241W does have excellent grayscale reproduction.

If color accuracy needs to be perfect (i.e. deltaE<3), I hope you have a calibrator. Most monitors (both CRT and LCD) average above 5 deltaE by default.

You might want to wait for the NEC LCD2690UXi too. It'd best your CRT in color accuracy and color depth, but will still fall short in black level and response time like all LCDs. It'll still have among the best black level and response time, however. It's going to cost around $1500 and will sport a W-CCFL (wide gamut cold cathode fluorescent lamp), enabling 92% (or higher) gamut.
