Best Gaming LCD for $350? (Leaning Towards 2005FPW Now)

I had almost decided to go with the L90D+ When I started noticing some other information popping up about other monitor choices.

The Dell 2005FPW (Wow, I mean wow, if I could find a deal and get this for $400 I would be in dreamland, or rather I think I would. I am a HUGE gamer so not sure how well this would look scaled and never had a wide screen so am guessing some games may not play correctly at all)

The NEC1960GX. This appears to be a L90D+ with a fancy screen that helps make colors more vibrant and actually seem to give them more depth. Main problem with it is that its pretty far out of my range unfortunatly. So unless someone knows a good pricematch, rebate, etc something another then I dont think I can consider this one.

I also keep hearing about a Samsung 930B that is quite nice but for the life of me I cannot find anywhere to find a price or specs on it. I have went to pricewatch, shopper.com, newegg, tiger direct, and I cannot find anything about it any where. But many have mentioned it within the forums.

Now many might be saying why not just go with the L90D+ and be happy. Its a great monitor I am sure as are the rest of the 8+ ms models, but the problem is I also like videos on my PC. And every article I have read says the samsung panel these monitors use all have problems running video (Dvd, divx, etc). Streaking, color problems, etc.

Now running video is not the major reason I am purchasing a monitor. The main reason would be gaming and second would be sharp text. LCD's are supposed to be easier on your eyes for long periods of viewing and have more vibrant colors.

So here is my reasons listed below and in the order of importance:

Great Gaming
Razer Sharp Text
Video (Dvd, Xvid, Etc)
Warranty, Support (I have noticed some companys claiming a 0 Dead Pixel Gurantee, From this review: http://www.behardware.com/articles/534/page5.html it appears the 1970 GX offers just that. That imo is worth quite a bit, if only I had the extra cash. Are there any other companys offering this?)

And finally I am not positive I have to have a 8ms. I had a friends 25ms for a long time, 17" and honestly did not notice hardly any ghosting on it. I have good vision, 20/20, but am not sure what determines how prevlant ghosting is to one individual vs the next. It may not be as prevlant to me. Although another montior I used, KDS 15" LCD, 30ms the ghosting was VERY prevelant. My point is, I might be willing to step down to a 12ms or 16ms to better fit my needs. With that said though, I would prefer as little ghosting as possible. If it was unoticeable that would be great.

Thanks up front for advice, and hopefully someone can direct me to the monitor I will be purchasing soon.

P.S. One more thing, people keep saying 4ms are just around the corner. Just around the corner means? two days? A week? Any advice on that?

EDIT: After reading all the info and checking prices I was just about ready to purchase the 2005FPW. It seems to be an amazing monitor and from Anands review it just sounds perfect. But I cant find any info on how games look when scaled back. I am sure there are some current games and many future games that I cant run at the native resolution. So I will have to scale them back, I am just worried how they will look scaled back. My video card is a X800XL.

I have the 2005FPW, and it fits right into your requirements perfectly.

Beautiful for gaming, bright vibrant colors, and great warranty (don't have to worry about dead pixels since you can return/exchange it within the first 21 days for any reason).

Hmm........

Very very very interesting.

Main problem is it will be tommrrow before I get paid and not sure the deal will still be open then. Thank you very much for the info and will keep my fingers crossed. If I can get in on it tommmrrow evening for that price then that will definatly be the monitor for me 🙂

Vcize mind if I ask how well it works in gaming? I mean if you switch to a lower res for certain games, do they still stay in wide screen format and do they look very nice? Thanks again for advice friend.

Blah just my luck heh....

Well I guess the search continues.

Anyone who has the L90D+ can you please comment on this supposed bad video quality? From what I am reading there is very noticeable streaking and graphics glitchs while playing videos. Has anyone noticed this and how bad is it?

Well, through hacks/special instructions, you can get almost any game to play in widescreen if it doesn't support it natively. go here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/

BTW...I just ordered a 2005FPW the other day for $435 shipped to PA...I'm pretty excited for widescreen gaming. I hate scrolling or moving...I'd rather use my peripheral vision.

Well its tommrrow or bust.

I am still debating this. Comes to about $440 for the 2005FPW and a Gamepad. (Had to add filler for one of the coupons and came ot $440 after adding in tax, was like 414 or so).

I am still debating because of gaming. I am a huge gamer. I have a X800XL. My worry is I cant find any info about how well this is for gaming. Espeically when sclaing the resolution back, which I am sure I will have to do on quite a few games. Running the newest games out at 1600 x 1000 rez is kind of tough with decent settings cranked up. And as newer games come out I am sure it will eventually become impossible to continue running them at that rez. So my concern is how games look when scaled back.

I just cant find any info on it.

Get the 2005FPW, you will not regret it. 🙂

I run one on a 6800GT, which is only somewhat faster than the X800XL in some cases, and I have no problems gaming at 1680x1050....you probably wouldn't either. Even if you did have to drop down to a lower resolution, scaling is really pretty good on this monitor.

Where do people keep getting this 6800GT is faster than an X800XL, read the reviews folks, the only game that it came out ahead was Doom 3, and no duh, it's nvidia's baby. Now admitedly at the insanely high reses, they were neck and neck, but in the lower res the x800xl kicked it's ass. If I need to I will find the reviews for you.
