I'm in the market for a nice gaming headset. I had been looking at Plantronics DSP-500 and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this set? What do you guys use and would you recommend something else?

I'm on my 3rd headset.

1st was a Microsoft something or other about $30.

2nd is a Plantronics. Around $40 I think when I got it. Only $20 now at Newegg. It's fair.

Latest is a Sennheiser PC150. This is BY FAR the best I've used. Sound is great. Fit is great. Mic is great. Around $50 I think at NewEgg. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

Sorry, no experience with Plantronics DSP-500. However, from the pictures, it's EXACTLY (on the outside) the same as my $20 model (Audio 90 I think) with the exception of the USB connector and software. Also, a couple people have had poor luck with this unit.

The Sennheiser PC150 is WAY more comfortable on MY head then my Plantronics unit.

Good Luck!

i have a dsp-500 its a nice headset i would recommend either pc-155 or dsp-500 if you wanted to go wiht the usb route if you want to go with the audio plugins and stuff i would recommend audio 90 or pc-150

they both have good support i broke my dsp-500's before at the wire volume part i said it was my fault and if i could get it repaired or sumthing and they told me to send in my headset and it would be replaced free of charger :) i was pretty happy.

I use DSP-500s. Good headset but sometimes I get this "robot" voice that lasts for a few minutes. I don't know what triggers it or ends it but basically all sound gets distorted. Its really weird, but other than that it is an awesome headset. I'm not sure if mine is defective or not but my whole CS team has the problem. Maybe Plantronics gave us crappy headsets since they were free from a sponsorship.

*sigh* another "best headset" thread. Do a search and you'll clearly see that the PC150 is probably the most highly recommended headset here (audiophiles, please note I said headset and not headphones). BTW, I LOVE mine. Here's my review from newegg:

Pros:
-Best headset/headphones/earphones I have ever owned
-Crystal clear sound at all levels
-Awesome bass, very clear and loud
-Very clear sounding mic
-Very comfortable, even if worn for 5 hours straight
-Fits securely on my head, won't fall off
-Good mic placement, away from face so there are no breathings sounds

Cons (I'm nitpicking):
-Most expensive headset/headphones/earphones I have ever owned
-Maximum volume is not loud as I would like it, although I would never listen to it that loud.
-Heavier than most cheaper headsets
-Foam is a bit hard

Overall, this was a great buy and I am very satisfied with this item.

Also, please note that Sennheiser is planning to release the PC160 soon which was specifically designed for gamers, especially ones who go to LANs a lot.
