Best Gaming Headset - Which one and why?

I'm looking for a new one since my R/65B KOSS headset broke. The sound quality is really nice on it. Too bad they used cheap/weak/brittle plastic that holds the speakers. Superglue worked if I'm careful, but I've had to redo the gluing twice already... and now the damn cheap plastic molding that the mic hooks into broke off too.

I definitely would NOT recommend anyone purchasing this headset unless you intend to treat it EXTREMELY gently at all times. Plus there's no volume control.. and if you like to switch between headset and your desktop speaker setup it's a pain in the butt. Especially if you switch to the headset and forget to lower the volume. Ugh.

Looks to me like Plantronics HS1 might be the best way to go from what I've looked over so far. I thought getting one of those USB sets with the DSP... but I have a SB Audigy, so what's the point? Plus I've read some posts in forums from people bitching about a few problems they have with games and the signal. :/

Anyway... hopefully we'll get a good response from people that know gaming headsets. If this gets a good enough response, I'm probably going to end up going with the opinion of the person who seems to be the most knowledgable about it. :D

So.. go ahead and contribute people! Share your knowledge and help the rest of us that are quibbling over which one to buy!

Wow, I guess this isn't a topic people are interested in.

Gaming headsets seem to be a nitche market, I don't see much about them anywhere.

I use an MLI headseat (I couldn't even get you a model number) that I bought last year when the mplayer.com store was clearing out all hardware. It's got in line volume control and is quite comfortable. Sound quality is good as well. It's nice with my santa cruz, because I have the versa jack set to Headset out, and I can switch between speakers and headset easily with software.
