Time to shop for a new one. Old one is dead.

What I will use it for :
FPS games like Dod source and FarCry 3. Dota 2 .
TV programs on Youtube.

What are your system specs and budget?

PC is 4 years old.

Core i7 3.06 ghz with 2megs of cache
12 gigs of Corsair Dominator DDR3 memory
WD Sata caviar black hard-drive
Going to get a Radeon R9 270x
Gigabyte x58a-ud3r

I'll replace system entirely in a year's time. So was thinking about getting a display for around $300 to tide me over till then.

I haven't got a video card yet since my original Radeon went kaput so should I get a G-Sync display? This would necessitate getting a Nvidia card??

IPS or TN panel?

This is not a bad route to go honestly.
And wait it out until 4K GPU's and Displays evolve. It's as close to 4K your going to get.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed in a Korean $300 QNIX EVO II.

If I get a G-Sync display, do I need Nvidia video card? I was planning on getting a radeon r9.

Which gaming oriented display gives best/most accurate color rendition?

Is it a case of wanting best color or best gaming ?

For $300: The 27" Korean QNIX 2510 Evo II Samsung IPS 1440P Matt Display. You can run them @ +120Hz.

This is the best bet for $300.

You want high refresh rates if you're playing old FPSs like DOD Source.

Gsync is nVidia only. FreeSync works with AMD so if you were going to go with radeon r9 you do not want a gsync monitor.

Unless you want inaccurate colour reproduction by setting it to a refresh rate which it's pixel response time can't keep up with.

Inaccurate color reproduction is pretty irrelevant for gaming so long as its not obviously bad looking.
