Best gaming card for $140

I'm burned out on researching tonight. I need the best videocard for gaming that does DX10 with $140 pricepoint(and no i can't squeeze out any extra pennies).😀 Any ideas?

There are a bunch of 8600gts below or @ $140, some $150 with a free game. Get one of those

Get the 1950P put up with CCC and and wait for the nexgen dx10 cards...

For the money prolly the best price performance card ever, unless you stumbled upon a visiontek 2900xt with orangebox for $320.00

An X1950GT and an 8600GTS are comparable. An X1950 Pro is better than an 8600GTS, not comparable to. Don't put that bastard child Nvidia card in the same basket with the superrior ATI card -_-

I was going to get a Ferarri but I settled for a Fiero because the names were comparable . . . .

Hell, looking at benches, even the X1950GT is marginally faster than the 8600GTS. The X1950Pro is a *LOT* faster than the 8600GTS, and the X1950XT (if you can find one used) makes the 8600GTS look like an S3 ViRGE.

lol that firingsquad link you posted shows the X1950Pro beating the 8600GTS, even the factory oc models.

From the conclusion of the 8600GTS review :

"quite frankly it?s currently a terrible value at today?s prices. "

Who cares, the 8600GTS was slow then, and it's still slow.

I'm not a fanboy genius, the Nvidia 8800s walk all OVER both the 8600GTS and X1950s. But the fact remains, that the X1950Pro is FASTER than the 8600GTS in almost everything, the links you showed reflect that. The factory overclocked 8600GTS (expensive!) is STILL SLOWER than a stock X1950Pro. To add insult to injury, running 8600GTS in DX10 mode brings frame-rates into painfully slow light. So what's the point? The only reason to go 8600 is for HTPC stuff, ditto with the absolutely awful 2400/2600 ATI cards. ALL the midrange DX10 cards are garbage. Garbage because they're slower than older DX9 boards that sell for = or < $$$. Go re-read the Firingsquad link that YOU posted, and look at all the benches where the 8600 gets outpaced by the X1950Pro.

Another note, the $119 X1950GT can be overclocked beyond X1950Pro speeds, and that puts you in performance that a 8600GTS can't touch even with liquid cooling.

O' Rly? 8800 runs all over the 8600? You must be a genius. Liquid cooling? LOL... I'm on air and it beats 1950pro in some games. Radeon does not overclock much on the core and it already has enough memory bandwidth to saturate the core and than some.

Factory overclocked? You know you can even overclock beyond those factory overclocked speeds or even any of the regular old 8600gts. I know because I have one $130 gts overclocked to 775/1130 and SP clocks to 1566mhz.

I have owned both of these cards at overclocked speeds and they're comparable. Some games 1950pro wins and some 8600gts win. A while 8600gts has the superior image quality while giving out 2fps slower in memory starved situations. :Q

Well, you must be about the only one on the entire forum that thinks a 8600GTS isn't a terrible deal. Being slower than 1+year old cards is pathetic. Particularly when you can find the older 7900/X1900 cards for less $$. The 128-bit memory interface is crippling, and while the 8600 isn't as god-awful as the 2400/2600, it's just very surprising that anyone would buy one. Either get a faster DX9 card for less $$, or pony up for the real deal, the 8800.
