With a maximum budget of $250, the absolute best bang for your buck by a wide margin is the Shure SRH-940. There is nothing from Sennheiser or Grado that can touch the quality of the 940 in that price range.

I also own ATH-M50s, and while they sound great, they are not comfortable to wear for a long time (2+ hours), especially with glasses. Also the pleather pads on mine have started to get hard after about 6 months of moderate use.

Technically, however, they are quite nice for the price. I think my next pair will be an AT open design.

If you're expecting Beats 'never mind the quality, feel the volume' bass you'll be disappointed. But they're a fairly well balanced phone IMO.

I was reading and beats tak batteries for an internal amp. I think these 55S are great and would be better with a amp. Could live with that but my left ear is obviously bigger than my right and I think I need a larger headphone.
