Hello,

I currently have a Samsung 22" and its starting to look washed out. I was considering upgrading to a larger monitor and giving my wife this one. I play a ton of games and have a large desk. I thought maybe I would skip 24" and go to 27". Most of the reviews for 27" are mixed, and I am a total noob when it comes to the specs in comparison to games.

I play a lot of different games (Starcraft2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, WoW, Supreme Commander 2, CoD, MW2, ME2, Oblivion, Rift). So I would want something that can handle FPS gaming along with the others.

I occasionally watch a movie, or do word and excel on the system.

Here are 2 I found, but any other options would be appreciated.

Oh I would like to keep the price range between $300 - $400.

Thanks for the reply gsaldivar. I don't care about brand as long as the parts are high quality and it does what its suppose to do. This looks like a great buy for the average computer user who browses the net and watches a youtube video. Is this something a heavy gamer would get? The Asus I have linked is LED over the other 2. Does that make a difference game wise?

Your first link doesn't go to Newegg....

But I would go with the Samsung. I wouldn't waste money on a no-name brand monitor.

All Newegg links on this forum are automatically modified to give AT credit for the click referral.

Samsung is a decent name.... but their monitors also have some drawbacks. I wanted to wall mount a Samsung monitor recently and had to drop $30 on a custom Samsung bracket just so I could use it with a standard VESA mount... :\ Now I know Samsung isn't the only company that sells tons of monitors without standard brackets on them, but it kinda pissed me off since the monitor was a relatively high-end model.

Thanks for the replies. My desk is fairly big so I don't think I will mount it. I guess I am just trying to settle on which monitor will be best for long nights of gaming.

Right, but instead of eventually going to Newegg it went to c-net's shopping page or something.

Good luck. If it doesn't work out, I was going to recommend that ASUS you linked in the OP. Had it since November 3rd myself, and it works like a dream.

Asus VE728Q LED 27" LCD is about the best 27" on the market for your intended price range.

Hey look first post!

How is your appetite for a generic brand name?

Search techbargains.com for "28in LCD" and the first hit should be the I-Inc iH-282HPB for $244.99 new / $209.99 refurb.

There are a bunch of reviews on Amazon, it seems to be a decent monitor for well below your budget price.

I have this monitor and am considering buying 2 more for surround gaming!

NO disappointment at all thus far, had it since Thanksgiving last year...
