hey all,

i am a pretty big gamer in some respects...i love RPGs i think good stories make the game so much better, adventure games also cause of the personal and story aspect, but I love FPS, action and strategy to go with it, schooling people at madden is always a plus :)

before I build my new computer and get some good new games I was looking through some of the old ones and it got me thinking...what are your top 5 favorite games that have not been hyped and fly under the radar?

My five are:
1. Beyond Good & Evil: absolutley great and fun game to play; the game just has a great feel to it when you play and some cool features that made you want to keep playing
2. Indigo Prophecy: very intertaining game with a good story also...no game around that has the same cinematic value...many choices and actions that affected the on going potions of the game
3. Planscape Torment: I love these RPGs; Baldurs Gate, Icewind Date, Neverwinter Nights, but Torment was the best I played...I really wish they would make a sequel to what I think is in my top 5 greatest games every played
4. Jagged Alliance 2: I have played this game so many times just because of of the amount of characters (MERCs) to choose from; this strategy game even though doesnt have much of a look too it has so good humor and some really fun turn based strategy and the game lasts forever which is always a plus
5. Vampire: The Masquerade-Bloodlines: This was a really cool concept of being different types of vampires in a 1st person action game...the combat was a lil faulty and the multiple endings could have been better but it was fun to play overall and the eerieness was always cool

I play GW, Half-life mostly now and I also own fear, company of heroes, NWN, Marvel: UA, Lego Star wars (its fun:)), all the C&C, Warcrafts, starcraft, diablos, D&D RPGs, spellforce and others i cant think of

I plan on getting C&C 3 and Witcher when I build my new comp and then eventually crysis, bioshock, a few expansion for some of my games and im sure some others

so anybody got a list?

Thanks :p

I think Im finally going to try out Beyond Good and Evil. Been years and people still talk about how good it was, plus I can run it off my laptop.

If you can stomach the old graphics, I think everyone should play Star-Control 2. I know there are others on this board who have played it. Really, I think its one of the best games ever made. If you seriously give it a shot, play until at least you meet the spathi, the game is a little slow until that happens, and only because your ship has no upgrades so traveling takes a little time.

Haha that game should prob go under this thread I made :D

Old School Games

It looks really familar though

And yes please play BG&E if you like a game that has really good characters, good story, cartoony element :p and is fun to play...u have to try it out...

i think even by todays standards the game still looks cool..i heard a whisper a lil while ago about making another one but i think it was drowned out...i really wish they would cause that is def worth it

Chronicles of riddick: escape from butcher bay - Good FPS, surprised me as games based on movies typically suck

Giants citizen kabuto - Old but funny and fun too, it an FPS, where you can fly

Star trek armada II - Spammy but fun space RTS

Soldiers heroes of WWII - Its like commandos but much easier and more fun. Just nicking a tank and trashing the entire level is a viable option sometimes, dont know what kind of game it would come under, company of heros mixed with commandos probably

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Made by some of the same people who did Fallout. An excellent rpg not many know about. Got rpg of the year back in 2001 or 02.

The only complaint I have about Titan Quest & TQ:Immortal Throne is the performance. It has issues of rubberbanding, despite being a single player game. That said, I love the game enough to ignore that.

The worst thing about going back to play Diablo & Diablo II is the graphics--TQ offers updated graphics and the same game play. :)

Another vote for Star Control 2. Plus, it's free and OSS.
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Planet's Edge: Similar to SC2, but on a much larger scale with different mechanics. Once again, the graphics are ancient, and not as entertaining, but the game itself more than makes up for it. There is no help. You have to piece together the stories/subplots yourself. There's a good deal of tactical strategy as well. You have to play it to really know what I'm talking about. Also RTFM (link included on the underdogs page)

Note: It says this on the underdogs page, but I figured I'd repeat it here just to be safe: There's a bug that will prevent you from entering the orbit of the first planet in every system via the "enter orbit" option at the comm. Easy workaround: Use the hotkey "o" instead.

Runs perfectly under VDMSound

'The Myst Series. All 5 of them. Riven is WAY to difficult and makes no sense (lots of "push the random button to make random shit happen on the other side of the island" stuff), but the others are solid, and the character development in III, IV and V is pretty awesome. They take time and patience, but they're awesome. The graphics are also kickass.
