Please no TF2 or Day of Defeat... Even cheesy 2d games are cooll.... By the way I have a 7900GS and have been out of PC gaming for a year and a half.

Firstly,

You can upgrade that Graphics card to something faster for dirt cheap nowadays without upgrading the rest of your rig.

Second, I suggest doing a forum search for the answer to most of your question.

Freelancer
Diablo II Battlechest
Warcraft III battlechest
StarCraft Battlechest

Tons more probably. Head on to www.gog.com for the older stuff.
Xcom etc.

Lack system requirements or "lax on system requirements?"

The Source games (HL2, Portal, L4D) are a lot of fun and tend to run well on most hardware.

ok my system can run pretty good games I would image AMD 4800+ Dual Core 2GB Ram (may upgrade to 4 GB) and a Nvidia 7900GS.. I think my system could run better games could it not? COuld it run torchlight or dragons: age or origins.. I was thinking of better game selections than the ones provided.

It really depends on what you're looking for. There are lots of games that will run on a 7900GS. I have one that I use when I'm in between high end cards, and I've even run Crysis on it @ 1024x768 with lower settings.

Right now, probably the hottest low system requirements game is Torchlight, and at $10 it's definitely worth it.

+1 on this. Torchlight can even run pretty well on netbooks

Torchlight should not be a problem at all. I run it on my laptop and it only has a T6600 and a 4500MHD.

Or any other Blizzard game also. They are successful in part because they make very fun games that don't require the best of the best in computer parts to run to their max ability.

Dragon Age lists the following min specs:

VISTA MINIMUM SPECS

* OS: Windows Vista with SP1
* CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
* RAM: 1.5 GB or more
* VIDEO: ATI Radeon X1550 256MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

...so you might just be able to run it.

With a decent dual-core (and that qualifies) you can absolutely run Dragon Age. And most UE3 games too: Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc.

Well according to the box, Stalker Clear Sky can be run on a Pentium 4 2.0GHz/Athlon XP 2200+, 512mb memory and an ATI 9600 / nVidia 5700. But it also says that if you try to run at these settings, Baby Jesus weeps.

Another vote for Torchlight. It's fantastic.

My brother runs it fairly well on a 3600 @ 2.3-ish, 7900GT and 4Gb. He has an ooold 1024x768 LCD, though, so it's not exactly demanding a whole lot.

Define "fairly well". Because if you consider all details on minimum and running at 10fps to be "fairly well", then yes I agree. But there's no way he's doing much better than that.

Fairly well is playable. 10fps is not playable.

You don't think a 7900GT can run STALKER: CS in 1024x768? Really?

There are plenty of old games that would run on there: Civ 4, Quake 4, Doom 3, the afore-mentioned Blizzard games, Far Cry, Sims 2, Morrowind, etc. That's all I can think of from my gaming library. I haven't been on Battle Net in a while, but Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne (that's the expansion pack) probably still has a decent online following, and there are a lot of good custom games out there for it.

You should check out the FS/FT forums. You might be able to find some really good and cheap games.
