What games play well on a laptop?? Win2K, ati 8mg mobile rage on a PIII733 using battery power for a 3 hour drive (no car power adapter) I get about 2 1/2 hours of on time but with gaming I'm sure that would shorten...

2D strategy is fine or even simple games.... It's for an 11 year old. Any ideas??

I would try something like Worms, or Civilization, perhaps Warcraft 2(but it might not work on Win2k since it's dos based).
It's hard to think of suitable games for a 11yr old. Hmmm.. how about Tetris as well?

Sim City (or any Sim-type game)...that should work for that age and type of machine. OR...$80 for Gameboy Advance...maybe that would be a better long-term solution. :)

Fallout 1 & 2 = 2-D sci-fi themed laptop RPG goodness.
My favorite laptop picks.

Some subject matter a bit too racy for an 11 year-old tho, IMHO.

AOE, AOEII, and Starcraft are my son's favorite games to play on my laptop. I also run Baldur's Gate and Homeworld as well.

As much as I love Fallout 1 & 2 those are DEFINITELY not games I would ever recommend to a pre-teen audience. Those are two games in which the mature audiences 17+ rating is well deserved.

I agree...which is why I noted that in my previous post.
Having sex with the prostitute after rescuing her is the most extreme content that comes to mind, even tho there is drug abuse, contract killing, and loads of vulgar language.

Definitely Starcraft. It runs great on older video cards, AND the big kicker here is, you can get the Battle Chest with the game, Brood War expansion, and the strategy guides for only $20. How ya gonna beat that?

Is he gonna use a mouse or the touchpad? I would think any rts would take a lot of mouse action, which would be frustrating in the car. If I were to suggest a 2-d game I would say Heros of Might and Magic 3, but as she is 11 that might become a little challenging unless you turn on some cheat codes.
My son is 9 and his absolute favorite thing to play on the computer is MAME. More than N64, PS2, and any other game we have on the computer. Grab a usb gamepad and you should be good to go.

The laptop has the "eraser-head" stick.

She's already bored with Heroes 3, she's been playing it on her desktop for a couple years now (and doesn't need the cheat codes....thats my girl ;-).....)

So, Starcraft it is! Since I already own it, it's no lose if she don't like it.....

Thanks for all the ideas. I'll keep the list of games you all suggested in case this one flops.....
