Hey all,

I just got a new 24" monitor from DELL and want to show it to my wife in the most impresive way I can (So I don't get killed). What PC game do you think would blow away a non-gamer on a bright 24" widescreen 1920 X 1080 monitor?

I'd stick with showing off movie trailers... Your wife isn't into gaming at all, so showing off a game on your new 24" monitor is going to make her more disgusted with your new "toy". Stick to movie trailers.

Just do a powerpoint slide that goes:

"Honey, I wanted to show off my new monitor by making you a wonderful powerpoint presentation..."

*click*

"But I was too busy with the babysitter while you were out getting groceries."

She knows that I bought it for gaming so I need to show off a game (I also plan on showing her a movie and set the screen saver to pics of her and the munchkin).

Whichever it is, make sure its a game you can run with all the eye candy and good FPS. If she sees a game with low settings or stuttery framerate she won't be impressed. As such, that likely rules Crysis out. FC2 intro scene is great though, and requires a lot less to max out the eye candy

I'd pick the prettiest racing game I could find - fps is an instant turn off however pretty to most women, but they can get into a bit of racing and so appreciate the graphics much more.

Mass Effect is very pretty, including a very awe inspiring title screen of a view above the Earth as it rotates, that is perfect for impressing your wife.

Crysis if you system can handle it. Light shining through tree tops and near movie quality water ftw...

Doom 3 isn't bad. Textures are pretty horrendous but its precise lighting makes up for it. You can find it in a bargain bin for $9.99 usually. I still get amazed by zombies' fireball casting shadows of nearby objects, as the fireball is coming after me. (and I get hit of course  )

Set your desktop background to wedding pics or something. I don't think games are going to be helping you. In fact, not playing games on it for a while may be the best way to go. Just my opinion, of course.

edit: maybe show how much more screen real estate you have to be retouching your wedding pics. or doing stuff with kids pics.

I know this is an old game but run the demos of Quake2. When my girlfriend saw it on my new Samsung 22" 2253BW she said: "I can't believe how clear it looks!". It seemed to impress her greatly.

Some good advice here.

Games are your interest, probably not so much your wifes even though you told her you got it for gaming.

I would instead put movie trailers on it, or something else that interests her. Then your golden and next thing you know you can get a new toy. lol
