I'm looking for some birthday present ideas for my 11 year old boy.

What are your guy's (meant non-genderically) choices for best PC games.

Many thanks.

depends on his likes, if he likes legos, get him a sim game, if he likes sports, go with a sports game, etc.

Any other thoughts?

A couple of years ago we did Twinsen and he loved it.

How about the Monkey Island series?

You can't lose with Hasbro's rereleases of classic arcade games.

The new Q*Bert, the new Frogger and Frogger II, the new Pong with the Penguins....

They're all non-violent but FUN AS HELL! :p

I'm 30 and I'm playing them more often than Q3A or UT!

Get him an Emulator and give him a bunch of discs full of N64 games. He will then grow up to not like computer games and will not turn into someone like me, a CS/UT/Q3 God. :)

I second Rayman2, it's an awesome game. It won IGN Dreamcast's game of the year for 2000. If he likes sports I suggest Virtua Tennis, you can play that with him too (up to 4 players at once). Beware though, it's so addicting.

Roller Coaster Tycoon, and Logical Adventure of the Zoombinis are pretty good (entertaining + using some thought/logic). Some of the Sonic the Hedgehog games for the PC seem pretty entertaining.

The PC versions of Monopoly, Risk, and Battleship are pretty fun.

I'll also recommend Microsofts Midtown Madness and Motocross Madness series.

buy him a bottle so he can play spin the bottle and get him a head start on being cool.

hrm...in terms of video games? if you have playstation, I always enjoyed super puzzle fighter ... it was like tetris but with cute street fighter characters...you really don't want to get your kid a RPG type game because that would make him weird when he grows up (i am talking out of experience here)*... i REALLY have fun with counterstrike...but that might be too violent...starcraft/red alert 2 encourages strategy ...but that might be too complicated...11 is 6th grade so that should be fine :)
(sports/fighting games on pc are terrible...those belong on consoles)

*my sister is very popular here on campus and NOBODY knows that she is a ff7/chrono trigger person who also played more diablo than me :p ... this is an anomaly though...you know the dungeons and dragon types right? well its the same for RPGs.

Start him out on Sim City, move him up to Civilization/Civilization II.

Fun and educational (you might have to help him with it a bit at first).
