Best FTP server/client software?

I need to help someone set up ftp access on their pc. I have used bulletproof and serv-u in the past and they were pretty straight forward. But this time I have to talk someone through installing it on their machine and configuring it. They will only have a few people that will connct to them (not at the same time) so I just need it to be able to assign username/passwrod, lock user in a certain directy, etc. Nothing too fancy.
Just wanted to see what was recommended here.
Also, regarding the person(s) that will be connecting to them, is it best to just use IE to drag/drop files or would an ftp client work better?
Suggestions, comments?

Thanks, I have used filezilla before so I am a littel familar with it. I know how to use it as a client but I do not see any settings to run it as a server. Or is there two seperate programs I need? BTW I downloaded version 2.2.13b.

I second (third? fourth?) FileZilla. I use the client regularly and have used the server in the past. Excellent choice

Thanks, nohr. I didn't see that.

OK, so now I need to set up the server.
It asks for an ip address. DO I use the LAN address or my real ip?
Port- i left it default and forwarded it though my router.
Password- Not sure on this. Do I just make up a password????

I tried all of this and all I get is
Reconnecting to server...
Error, could not connect to server

I can't get to the "Settings" menu because I'm not connected, I guess.

if you want it shared only within your network, put in your LAN IP. If you want it available on the internet, put your real IP in and forward the appropriate port on your router to your LAN IP.

I tried to set it up using BulletFTP server and everything seems to work when I would first connect but after I would browse through some folders, it would kinda stop responding. I would get some error 425 cannot open data connection (10060) or somthing similar. Doing some research I found someone saying to use passive mode but that did not seem to help.

So then I tried using filezilla and got the above error.

Zug, I tried it with the real ip and I still get:
Reconnecting to server...
Error, could not connect to server
Trying to reconnect in 5 seconds

So what is the password that I need to enter? Is it just something I make up or is there somewhere else I need to go to set one?

Then I tried to switch back to bulletftp and now I get
5/1/2005 7:06:28 AM SERVER: Unable to start server, port 21 may already be in use.
I even cleared port 21 from my router and then put it back in.
Anyone know what to try?

I suspect you're trying to run more than 1 FTP server on port 21 at the same time. You wouldn't happen to have both server apps installed and running at once would you.

I have bproof installed on two machines but I am not trying to run them at the same time. I would try one adn when it gave me that error I would go into the router and change the local ip # so I could try it on another machine. I got the same error on that one?????
