downloaded latest version of CuteFTP (which I've always used before) but it seems to run very very slowly in XP...any suggestions for a better FTP client to go with XP Pro ??

thanks

have a try with leech ftp.

never fails, loads of powerful features, small, straightfoward gui,
you might never try another if its compatible with winxp.

I either use crystal ftp, or the built in command line ftp that comes with xp.

My vote goes to SmartFTP for an all around ftp client... However, the interface will take time to get used to... This client will allow you to download with multiple threads from multiple servers with one instance of the client.

FlashFXP if you do a lot of FXP'ing from server to server... it's a very stable client as well... Great all around but has a couple of limitations...

For scripting, i would have to go with LeapFTP. It allows very complex scripting and can allow you to automate a lot of things that you find yourself doing repeatedly.

...And then there's LeechFTP -- only real purpose is to leech. It allows you multiple threads to an ftp with only one instance of the client.

Another FTP client that may be of interest to you is BitBeamer. Found it is very similar to SmartFTP with the ability to FXP files as well.

Leech and SmartFTP i believe are freeware. I have purchased FlashFXP and it is worth the $25 charged. I find CuteFTP and WSFTP very cumbersome in XP - as they were developed from a business' view point... unlike the others...

Hope this helps!

i use WS-FTP Pro 7.02 it is full featured without a bunch of fluff, and solid as a rock.

WS_FTP LE for Webpages, etc.
SmartFTP for downloading "family reunions"
FlashFXP for downloading "family reunions"

Usually, SmartFTP is the better FTP client, but I have both for twice the stuff at 1/2 the time.
