Best FSB266 AMD Processor Is..... ???

It's looking like my mb is screwed up from trying to put a 2500+ in it, apparently the 333FSB was too much for it to handle. So I'll probably be shipping the board back out to ASUS next week, probably will get it back in September. Also will have to send back the 2500+ and get a different processor, one which my mb can handle.

So what is the best AMD processor out there with a 266FSB? I do plan on oc'ing it as best I can (which should be a good deal), so take that into account. Also I'm running on somewhat of a budget (shouldn't be too much of a problem), something in the area of $100 would be nice (of course, I'd be willing to consider a bit more if it were really worth it). So any suggestions?

How much of a difference is a 1700+ going to be over a 2000+? Sorry I should've posted my current specs, which are:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+(Palomino)@1.78Ghz
ASUS A7V333v1.04
Samsung DDR PC2700 512MB (Kingston DDR PC2700 512MB soon)
GeForce3 Ti 200 (RADEON 9500/9600 Pro soon)

Is the 1700+ going to surpass 1.78 or 1.8Ghz? Would it be worth $100 or $80 or however much it costs for an extra couple 100Mhz over my current setup? I'm looking for 2Ghz+ out of this... Should I just wait until I get a new mobo and hope I can return the chip for a full refund/in-store credit(over a year)?

BTW If anyone thinks the 2500+ should be working in this config, refer to my other post (a page or two back)...

Yes with the proper steppings and the right combo, the 1700+ will get you over 2GHz for under$50

buy yourself a socket multiplier adapter which will allow you multipliers from 5 to 24. cost is 30 dollars plus shipping. this will allow you to overclock by multiplier and fsb .

What did I set the FSB to for what?

1700+ w/what core?

They wouldn't happen to have an adapter to get my mb to accept a 333FSB processor?
Why is it the memory can run at 333, but not the processor... to me, it would make sense to have the mb capable of running both at same speeds, but then I'm no computer engineer.

if your board wont run 333 fsb then next alternative is changeing the multiplier

the 1700+ will be limited to 12.5 max unless you have a nforce 2 board or you modify the bridges for higher multiplier and your motherboard will recognize the new multiplier

the slocket multiplier adapter will allow a higher multiplier to be used . this will allow you to run at a faster speed at 133 bus.

you may need to modify the L12 bridge even then to default the processor to 133 bus

best choice will probably be new motherboard

It's running at 266 bus now (well when it was working), I just bought this mb less than a year ago, must be a better way than having to buy a new one already... Was planning on waiting until next summer when I can actually afford a new one, and when I thought I was going to need one.
