Best friend got caught plagiarizing...

I think he might get expelled... at the least he's kicked out of class. Spare me the "he deserved it" posts - but is this gonna pretty much screw him for the rest of his life?

I told him to try talking to the Dean about making up some of the stuff he plagiarized, but he doesnt think it'll help.

umm, well if he blatantly plagarized something, then he does deserve it. You should know better in college to never plagarize anything and cite all your sources...

Plagiarism is like, the worst thing you can do in school. Every class for the first 2 years of university had a little handout about plagiarism and we had a little talk about it.

I always heard that it goes on your permanent school record, so yeah, it'll be with him.

Might as well have just shot a teacher.

I know he deserved it, but im his friend, and im just trying to find out if there's anything that can be done to minimize whats happened. He's actually pretty smart, and it sucks to have his whole life ruined because of one dumbass mistake.

And it's his dumbass mistake, and in life you pay when you fvck up - he should've thought how much it sucks to have his whole life ruined over something seemingly so small, but since he didn't think that through, he got busted and is going to pay the price. Stand by him, do what you can to keep him in school, but don't kid yourself into thinking he's right.

I don't think he's right, i think he made an incredibly stupid move... it's just i want to do something to help him. He's a really good guy, and i guess what im worried about a little is that he's always been kind of depressed, and this is probably gonna put him in even more of a funk. There's gotta be some doors left open... right?

He can find comfort from the fact that, in the long run, he can recover from this.

I wasn't trying to be an ass, but it sounded like you were defending what he did. Sounds like you know he made a bonehead move. Just don't be surprised if he suffers the consequences. My advice is to have him talk to anyone above him in power, deans, chairpersons, etc. He's going to need to plead his case and see if he can show remorse for this in some way. I don't know how it'll work, but that's all I can think of to do.

If he would have done the paper legitimately and forgot to include his works cited page, then got accused of plagiarizing, then that would have been a mistake.

Well doesnt this sort of screw him for future education? I mean if he gets kicked out... tries to transfer... they see why he was kicked out....
