So... I have a dilemma..

I want to get a decent budget gaming monitor for Christmas... My eye is set on the Viewsonic XG2401(I think thats it). Its only $250 and 144hz with freesync...

In addition to that fact, I am still using my good ol Antec P180 case and have basically 7" of length, maybe 8" if I really cram it in there. Are there even any decent GPU's in AMD lineup that can accommodate me here? I know AMD tend to have higher power needs than Nvidia so that is kind of a problem.. Where are the mini RX 470 / 480's?(probably physically impossible).

I could go the other way since I am a Nvidia guy anyways and go for a g-sync monitor, but those are quite a bit more money which I dont want to spend.

If you go to a site like NewEgg don't they show the length of the card? You could also look at which card you want and go to their website to get details on length. The 470 and 480 should be fine power wise but it does depend on your PS, what is your PS?

Yes they absolutely do show the length(usually). The issue I was having was, I didnt want to pay the premium for a gsync monitor, thus forced me to look at freesync. Freesync in general is at the very least $100 cheaper... So Ive always been a Nvidia guy, so this forced me to look/consider going AMD(which I didnt really want to do). AMD cards tend to be longer and less power efficient than Nvidia(Nvidia has Mini GTX 1060's etc, AMD does not). This forced me to look at either reorganizing my already "dated" P180 case drastically trying to make room for a longer video card or just saying screw it and upgrading to a newer case with more functionality.

I was actually just contemplating something like that today. The answer is, yes I could. However, and this might sound odd, but I have always preferred my HDD's be horizontal and not sideways(vertical?). Now, that is probably perfectly fine but I have always had this weird idea that HDD's should not be mounted like this. And yes I realize this is probably flawed thinking heh. So yes, I could put my HDD's in the lower bay mounting them all sideways. This would allow the middle HDD tray to come out and definitely allow a significantly longer video card. This would solve my problem of needing a new case. But with that logic, I would never find the need to buy a new case and honestly, it might just be fun to get a new case to tinker with that has better functionality... After shopping around, all these new cases out now have all these cool features and functionality. I realize this is a personal preference, I dunno...

Your thoughts?

It is personal preference, as you said. For someone, the only thing required is to make PC work when he had bought new card
