I'm going to have to go with probably the most popular and one of the greatest freestyles ever: Biggie & Tupac - Live in '95

If you haven't heard that, open Kazaa and grab it immediately. Anyway, anyone else got some good reccomendations?

I agree about Tupac, best freestyler and studio rapper ever, IMHO. I don't know about Biggie tho'. I think it's the way he sounds to me, like his tongue is too big for his mouth, lyrically talented, verbally challenged.

This is an incredibly subjective question depending on the influence of what type of rap you listen too....

I have had that Biggie n Pac freestyle for a while, and it is cool. But out of everyone, I would have to say Canibus is the best freestyler. His freestyles are 1000000x better than any song he has ever put out, I have a track of him at home (at work right now) that he goes on for a bout 7 minutes straight... and it is just great.

Eminem is an okay freestyler, I don't know why people think he is the best.... its good, but its not great. They all seem somewhat short and really are just words rhyming instead of saying a lil' message or sumfin.

Surprisingly, the Biggie n Puffy freestyle I have is pretty damn good. Method Man and Redman have somem good freestyles too, but they still aren't Canibus' style. Now... Lil' Flip is good if you like the H-Town ghetto style with a DJ Screw beat. They don't call him the freestyle king for nothing (and I am sure not many people out of H-Town ever know who he is ... except he has a new video out)

People from the West will probably claim 2pac
People from the East may claim Canibus but probably Eminem
People from the South will most likely claim Lil' Flip

Canibus and Eminem have the best freestyles IMO

However, not all the "freestyles" you hear are freestyles. That verse that Tupac said up on stage appeared in a song of his. Now whether or not the track was written before or after that performance, I dunno. But I can't see an artist being so desperate for lyrics that he'll listen to an old freestyle and throw it on a record, know what I mean? That only leaves one possibility, he spit an old verse while one stage...

i've always wondered if these "freestylers" would just memorize a couple of lines, then mix and match them when they do this......

true freestylin seems extreeeeeeeeemely hard

the best freestyle ever would have to be this video i saw of Supernatural at some show. That guy is the BEST. He was tellin folks to throw pieces of paper on the stage with topics to flow about and he was flowin like crazy to all of em. When someone threw one that said "X Men" on it, oh man, he blew the roof off. Don't know if i'd be able to find an audio sample. Just search Kazaa for the artist "Supernatural" and download the ones from the Wake Up Show.

Oh yeah, he's performing at Kelly's Mission Rock in SF next saturday the 24th. I'll be there. Anyone else interested should check it out.

If you are talking about the one where he battled Juice, I feel that Juice did pretty damn good...remember when Supernat didn't wanna rap to that beat, that was dumbest move made and Juice even attacked him for it: "..he tryin to change beats."

Also, I would love to point out that Big L is a pretty damn good freestyler as well. Eminem isn't bad either, if you have the dvd from his latest CD listen to the freestyle he did at that club, was nicely flowed.

Actually, most freestylers when battling have lines memorized and just keep going on that. It's called a "pick-up" line. Like most emcees use the line "I grab the mic" or something along those lines when they are stuck, so from there they can say anything such as "Imma grab the mic and tear your flow up, your nothing but a corny mofo with a played out haircut" or something like that ;) However when just going off the top of the head I think most people freestyle like the Biggie I was talking about earlier, the entire thing doesn't make any sense just parts of it...so it's believeable if you ask me.

Nah i'm talkin about some of the one's he did on his own, not battling or anything. I heard em on one of the early Wake Up Show tapes when they first came out. I don't think its the one where he battles Juice or anyone, but just goes off on his own with folks throwing topics at him.

Real freestyling is extremely impressive
I know how hard it is for me/my friends to write rhymes to my beats
I can't even imagine how hard it is to flow off the top of your head

This question is like "what is the best color ever?" or "what is the best noodle recipe ever"?

There is nothing whatsoever objective about the basis for people's opinon here nor does it involve any logical standards of comparison.

Ooo, I liked it when Biggie rolled his tongue that one time in that one verse, man that was the greatest moment in rap history...ever! Oooooooooo...k.

WTF are you talkin about? They are talkin about how they grew up and made something out of themselves on the street, their TRUE life. That pisses me off when people claim 'Pac and Biggie couldn't rap...psssh.
