Everyone I know that needs to edit videos uses some fancy program that is over $600.
Are there any free programs/old versions avaliable that have similar capability?
Any free software that is at least better than WMM?

Premiere Elements is excellent though not free. It currently lists for less than $90 or you could get both Photoshop elements and Premiere elements for about $100. I think Premiere elements is a great tool but, it does have a bit of a learning curve. However, that can be said for any video editing tool.

And in Vista, it exports to a new DVD authoring tool that defaults with moving menus and a moving background from the chapter points and video.

I'm now after the exact same deal!

Something free, decent, and will be pretty easy to capture an hour of video then be able to pull out certain sections.

My PC has a VIVO video card (s-vid/RCA only) and may possibly be able to get a firewire card for a DV grab from the guy's camera.

A64 X2 3800+ and 2GB RAM. HDD should be fine.

Advice VERY appreciated! :D :D

bluemax what did you do? Results?

I was dealing with AVS Video Editor and am not pleased with the price. Is there anything that can import an AVS Video Editor project file?
