Best free solution for burning MP3 discs.

I have a very old version of the Roxio suite laying around, but I suspect it might be better to use modern free software.

I just want to make some 80's sample discs for the kiddies at school, I dont feel like passing around my precious thumb drives.

Need something that lets me drag and drop songs around. Labeling the volume and making playlists is not a concern to me.

OK, infrarecorder is a little closer to what I need.

And imgburn was loaded with malware. Should I not have picked it up from Major Geeks?

Details? I never had problems with imgburn or MajorGeeks, but I haven't used them for years. If they're bundling crapware now, they'll be off my recommended list.

OP, do you want to burn audio CD tracks directly to MP3 CD or what?

If you have the mp3s already, then why not just use Windows to burn the files to discs?

I have ripped hundres of music CDs directly to MP3 files using Audiograbber. And will continue to use it.

You can just drag and drop the MP3s in Windows Explorer and burn it as an MP3 CD instead of a data CD...the ID3 tag info will show up fine when played on a CD player as long as you have your tags in order.

This is why I like MajorGeeks. They will tell you when crapware is bundled with a program.

You also need to be careful when downloading from SourceForge. http://www.ghacks.net/2013/07/17/sourceforges-new-installer-bundles-program-downloads-with-adware/

Ah, thanks. Off my recommended list. I agree with you regarding MajorGeeks. That's good of them to notify the user of potential problems.

OT but it's getting hard to find anywhere to download that DOESN'T have crap bundled. I thought MajorGeeks was one of the last....... guess not.

Without looking in detail, it appears MG is just a supplier of packages, and aren't bundling the crapware themselves. You can't really blame them for the dev's practices, and they suitably notify the user of problems. I blame the imgburn people for the crapware in this case.

I don't like the practice of bundling crap to make money. They should ask for donations, or have bounties for extra features. Regardless of how well I like a program, I'll use an alternative when they start trying to trick people to make a buck. Some of it is indeed trickery. They use misleading language to obfuscate what really gets installed, and there's enough reports of installations installing crapware regardless of what you selected to not take it seriously.

lxskllr is correct. Majorgeeks is not adding on crapware. They are just providing downloads to the original program. AFAIK they have always had software that bundles crap on their site. What makes them special is that they give you a warning in the description.

You could always use Exact Audio Copy to rip & burn. Never used it's burning software, but it's always been the best CD ripping tool that I've seen.
