Yup, I believe this will always come out on top of any last-second bid regardless. Just set it to as high as you're willing to pay and it will manage the increments for you, retaining that auction control. Couldn't be simpler.Originally posted by: RagingBITCH
Proxy Bidding, by eBay
I like to use the 'sniping' programs vs. proxy bidding for a couple of reasons. One is you don't catch someone's attention and get into a tiresome and expensive bidding war. I just put in my maximum amount and forget about it, just like I would with proxy bidding. Of course someone can still outbid me, but it cuts out the newbs who will sit there and keep bidding in $1 increments until they just pass me up, etc. If you enjoy paying more then I would stick with proxy bidding.Originally posted by: JzL
Blah.. blah.. blah...
why would you need one of these?

It has to do with how long you can bid up the price. The sniping software only allows for a few seconds worth of bidding wars (they do not just bid your maximum bid). If the sniper servers are fast, it allows the bid to be placed faster than you can do it manually (may get in a higher bid in the last half second). Max Bid on Ebay allows competitive bidding for as long as the auction is still running.
Auctions can reduce the impact of sniping by saying that an auction ends 1 hour after the highest bid.

But proxy bidding, as I understand it, just bid the next increment after your initial bid is beaten. It doesn't just slap your highest price in there to begin with. I've had times when I put a max amount much higher than what I ended up winning with. Is this different now? I still don't understand the need for these programs.
If you have a manual bidder, the use of proxie shows that you are interested. They can then pay close attention to the auction and keep upping you bid.

Exactly how I feel. If you don't want a manual bidding war, just put your highest bid in during the last hour instead. No need to sweat it during the last few seconds if you're not willing to pay the higher price anyway. I guess some people are just really into it.Originally posted by: royaldank
I guess I can understand that. I don't use ebay very often (once every year or two) and just use their proxy. If someone wants to pay more, be my guest.
