best free graphics programs?? (like photoshop or psp)

anybody know any good free graphics programs out there?? i need to install some on my computer at work. Thanks in advance for suggestions and ideas.. and yes i know, I won't get anything nearly as good as photoshop or psp for free but as long as its better than paint it'll probably do.. thanks again...

What do you need it to do? I like Lview, but it's more of an image resizing/cropping program than doing effects and all that.

It's not free, but the evaluation period never really wears out.

Most higher end digital cameras and scanners come with a crippled version of Photoshop.

Gimp has about the same capabilitys as photoshop, and some people would argue that its better

I used to use an old shareware version of PSP. With the exception of a small nag screen at load up, it pretty much had all options available and let you use it for an unlimited amount of time. I don't know if the newer shareware versions let you do that anymore though.

If you enable it at compile time. The patent issues are what is messing that up. .png is better anyhow.
