I get a few dozen "Nigeria" or "Kenya" emails, along with Pharmaceutical/Doctor/Software emails that seem to always slip through Eudora's spam filter and even with the junk setting.

What is a better free email alternative with a good anti-spam filter?

Cool, I'm rolling with T-bird 1.5, it seems to be pretty good. Do you know how effective its junk/spam system works?

I'm using Outlook Express as email client and an addon to filter spam - Spam Bully.
Spam bully perfectly integrates with Outlook Express, and I?m satisfied with its filtering results.
well.. it?s not free, but I think 29,95$ for such a software is a reasonable price.
also, it offers a Trial version.

That's your first mistake. Outlook and Outlook Express are virus and spam magnets. For that matter, so is Internet Explorer as a browser. Try Mozilla.

You didn't say who your e-mail provider is, but many of them have decent spam blocking. Set the filter to block key words in the subject and/or sender, including words like cialis, c1alis, meds, stocks, smallcaps, viagra, v1agra, etc.

It doesn't take long to recognize the keywords the spammers use and add them to the filter.

Its spam filter is supposedly it's claim to fame so it should be good. I've never relied on it myself.

Harv, MS addressed your complaints when they released Outlook 2003.

1) Excellent spam filter!
2) Blocks external Internet content (images) in HTML messages
3) Blocks 38 attachment file types so that users must take positive action to view or save these files
4) Default settings restrict access to the Address Book so that only programs you specify may access it

:)

To the poster who said this, just because you use MS doesn't mean you will get viruses or anything else negative. Getting viruses or adware is really more dependant on the user being a bloody moron. My gf uses regular old IE day & night with no issues -- and I didn't "secure" it with Spybot or Javacool at all. But if you put a complete computer idiot on Firefox you will probably have spyware in no time.

Anyway, back on topic, Thunderbird is pretty good. Neat features, good interface, good adaptive spam filter.
