best free dvd playback software?

VLC is the only free one I know that can play back DVDs. I think all the other good free media players (MP Classic, Zoom Player, BSplayer, etc) require that WinDVD or PowerDVD software be installed for the DVD codec.
 
Try MPC alone. I think that should work as well. If not, have ffdshow installed as well.
