What is the best free backup software? I recently got an external hard-drive and have not found a worthy program as of yet.

Incremental File Backup: lots of people will recommend Cobian

Yes this is great software for windows.

For linux, or if you have a linux server, rsync works great too. At home I use it to backup all my windows and linux machines.

for imaging I have used CloneZilla - it has worked very well.
