best free AV out there?

I used the stuff from Grisoft awhile ago, is that still good to go with or is there something better out? I need an install one rather than an online one for my friend's comp.

If you can find viruses and trojans on your system w/ antivir, you visit newsgroup, irc, and p2p too much. well, and the fact that you're still using IE.
