adium. pretty good IM client. basically like trillian for windows, just much better looking and its mac only!

i would stick with the default mac mail client. you can also switch to mozilla thunderbird if you want.

there are also G4/G5 optimized builds of firefox, which apparently are much faster than the original ones. grab those and test them out if you like.

congrats on your mac and good luck!

Adium is good. I like using Thunderbird just because it's the same for both PC and Mac. I switch back and forth a lot so it's nice to have that consistency. The same goes with Firefox. The shortcut to minimize stuff is like F8 or F9. I forget exactly.

I use both Mail.app and thunderbird. You should be able to copy your thunderbird backups to the Mac. It goes in ~/Library somewhere.

Fire.app is the best multi-protocol IM client out there, but Adium is nice too.

Mac OS X has Samba built in, so you can share folders to Windows machines and access their shares.

You can minimize a single window with Command m. Command being the apple key. command tab I think lets you move between applications, and Command ` lets you switch between Windows in a single Application. I think.

EDIT: Oh, and Camino kicks the crap out of Firefox.

Its already built into OSX. Under the finder select "connect to server" and type in 'smb://<PC's IP address here>', and then you can enter your usual windows password and access the shares.
