I have been using Trillian Basic for years. I just got a popup saying my version of Yahoo Messenger is no longer supported, is there a better free chat application than what I am currently using?

I dont use it, but i'd have to recommend Digsby. I use Miranda atm. It's customizable as hell, but is a nightmare setting it up to be 'just perfect'...not to mention, they just came out with a new update that borked all of my settings =(

i've used digsby, i still have it installed and use it occasionally.

its okay i guess. it works. just be careful b/c it wants to install about 4 bullshit type 'mywebtoolbarsearch' programs or whatever. You can decline them though.

Digsby and Pidgin are probably the two best ones out there right now. I personally use Digsby and it's been great.

Trillian Astra is out now. I used it a little and it seemed fine.

I used Pidgin for a long time, then formatted and installed Windows 7, then decided to use Digsby.

Digsby is okay, the installation process sucks, it trys to get you to install all these tool bars and other crap software, just make sure to push decline.

It also uses your processor when you are idle to crunch numbers for some institute/program kind of like folding@home.

I would stick to Pidgin, it works fine and it doesn't do all this stupid shit that Digsby does.
