What's a good user-friendly way to track action items, that's better than just putting them on Google Calendar, better than a simple todo list?

Either web based or installed on the PC.
 
Depends on your particular need. Personally, I upgraded my trusty notebook to a Spiceworks installation and use its ticketing system to keep track of my open projects & tickets. I havent made the leap to letting users open tickets directly, but thats more a corporate cultural issue than a technical one.
