Let's discuss, I've seen a lot of cool (or potentially cool, but ultimately sucked) franchises get rebooted recently, what do you think is the best (or worst) reboot?

Ok, #1 if this isn't unanimous, I'll be suprised. But Batman, as in Batman Begins. I'm not even going to explain why.

#2, Battlestar Galactica. The original series had a great concept, but campy execution. The new series took that concept, got rid of the camp and ran with it.

#3. James Bond. Casino Royale is 100x better than the Brosnon crap and about 180 different.

Thoughts?

Agreed. Everyone kept telling me is was nothing better then an extended episode. I thought it was 100x better, I bought it after seeing it at a friends house.

Well... Transformers and Batman both had advanced cases of cameraseizureitis, but I think Batman Begins did a better job of rebooting the franchise than Transformers did.

Rambo is going to be awesome granted. Tango and Cash 2, I'll be there.

Die Hard 4? WTF? A PG-13 sell out crap fest is all that movie is. It's more of an abomination than anything else.

I love crazy cameras. It translates in my mind a lot better than all the 'smooth' camera movies. How and why, I dunno. Something to do with just making it feel like your there and your doing all the crazy.

Seeing Transformers in Imax was pretty much the most amazing thing I've seen as far as presentation goes. So sharp and beautiful, and so hectic.

Yeah, I liked that movie. Pretty good popcorn flick...that jet versus 18 wheeler scene was kind of retarded though. Probably doesn't beat the first die hard, but easily second best.

Casino Royale sucked ass. no story whatsoever, just random fighting and shit to appeal to the masses of sheep. bring back the old Bond. Some of the newer bond movies before CR weren't that great either, but better than CR anyway.

As far as BSG, I don't watch it, but it wasn't really a thing of being campy, it was that they didn't have the tech they have today. Most special effects in the 70s-80s are crap compared to what we have now.

Rocky Balboa - Its how the series needed to end. Rock V totally ruined the franchise. It was a joke of a movie. But bringing him back, having it all culminate in a great boxing bout in the ring, that is how rocky needed to end.

I'd also throw in the new Ninja Turtles animated movie - The first ninja turtles (live action) was cool, the second one was corny, the third one just was bad. Then they brought it back only animated and I thought the concept and storyline of it was pretty good.

In addition to Batman Begins, you could probably call Batman a "reboot," because it was the first Batman movie since the campy Adam West TV series and movie.

I do know that Star Trek (TV) needs a major reboot.

Hasn't been worth watching IMO since TNG.

Alien/s is in dire need of a reboot.

Pontifex:
It's obvious you haven't watched BSG as the updated special effects are only about 10% of the reason, why the new BSG is different from the old.

Give it a try... you might be pleasantly surprised. It's not flawless but it is definitely among the best Science Fiction shows I've seen.

Batman Begins is the best. No question.

Transformers is a distant second, but still a VERY interesting new take on the subject.

I also did really like the new Casino Royale. However, I'll admit Brosnan's stuff was crap, but please keep two things in mind, people:

#1. The only person who hated those movies more than us was Pierce Brosnan. He'd constantly, publicly complain about the lines he was being forced to read. The man's a fine actor, he can't make gold out of poop.

#2. Goldeneye kicked fucking ass.

Dr. Who.

The new series is great. A good balance of removing enough camp to make it watchable but leaving enough there to stay true to the original.
